I love love love the new Beauty and the Beast movie. One of the best parts, of course, is the Beast’s library, so I wrote “Belle Would Be Enchanted by These 10 Lovely Libraries in Hotels” for USA Today 10Best.Read All Entries
Although I tried to be a teenage rebel and fight Springsteen mania when he was on the cover of both Time and Newsweek the week of October 27, 1975, I gave in pretty quickly and have now been a fan of The Boss for more than four decades.
Thunder Road is probably my favorite song of all time and every Springsteen album has been an important part of the soundtrack of my life. I vividly remember when The River came out and would love to see him perform the album in its entirety, which he’s doing on tour this year.
Because The Boss has always been as easy on the eyes as he is on the ears, I’m also dying to see the new “Bruce Springsteen: The River Collection” photography exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in LA. Although I couldn’t make it to the media preview, my intrepid pop culture guest writer Rebecca Olkowski did. Rebecca blogs at Baby Boomster, and she recently covered the Brooklyn costume exhibit and celebration of the Oscar-nominated short films for me. [Read more…]
You know how important music is to me, especially when I’m traveling. I would never get in my car or on a plane without my iPod!
Even with more than 2500 songs on it, though, I get bored and am always looking for new music. When someone gives me an iTunes card for a gift, I’m as happy as the girl on the card!
Lately, friends have been suggesting a number of music apps, all of which are available on the iTunes store. I haven’t tried them all yet but am definitely intrigued. I’d love to hear what you think of these: [Read more…]
Thank you, Ovation TV, for sponsoring this post!
As you know, I am a music fanatic.
My iPod is my favorite possession, and I love making playlists.
So when I heard about the new Ovation TV show, On The Record With Mick Rock, I was immediately inspired to create a new playlist. After all, so many songs that make up the soundtrack of my life are somehow related to the famed British photographer. [Read more…]
I received the Little Mermaid Legacy Collection CD as a member of the Entertainment New Media Network. No further compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
I would have sworn I first watched The Little Mermaid with my kids but since the movie is now celebrating its 25th anniversary, that means they weren’t even born when it first came out. And that means I was rocking to “Under The Sea” and “Kiss the Girl” by myself! Ha ha!
So I guess we’ve come full circle because Walt Disney Records has just released The Legacy Collection: The Little Mermaid, my kids are grown and out of the house, and I’m once again rocking “Under The Sea” and “Kiss the Girl” in my car all by myself! [Read more…]
When Linda Eastman became a household name in 1969, I disliked her immediately. Who was this blonde photographer marrying Paul McCartney? Didn’t she know I was supposed to marry him? [Read more…]
I received a set of the Legacy Collection CDs as a member of the Entertainment New Media Network. No further compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
I rarely write about Disney since my kids have grown and my days as Flicks for Kids editor at NickJr.com are over.
But I will always have a special place in my heart for the classic Disney movies and the songs that literally provided the soundtrack to my kids’ childhoods.
I jumped at the chance to review Walt Disney Records: The Legacy Collection, a new line of collectible CDs celebrating the anniversaries of some of Disney’s most beloved films (and Disneyland itself), so I’d have an excuse to listen to those songs again even though no one was in the back seat of the car to sing along. I was so moved when my husband recently told me he still kept a voicemail I sent him years ago saying that the David Gray song, “Real Love,” had just come up on my iPod and it made me think of him.
I was so sad when Jen Kehl announced that today would be the last Twisted Mixtape Tuesday for a while. Granted, I only discovered it a few months ago and have missed many weeks along the way, but being part of this passionate-about-music group has been such a great and meaningful experience. As a writer, I love words and am obsessed with song lyrics. When I was in school — from elementary through college — I included song lyrics in all my papers and projects because there was always one that expressed exactly how I felt or what I was trying to say.
So, even though I am trying to get a ton of work done right now, preparing to leave for the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Conference on Thursday, I have to participate in Twisted Mixtape Tuesday because the theme is “These lyrics are genius.”
I don’t have time to really sit and think too deeply about this one so I’m going to take the first songs that come to mind. Here we go! [Read more…]
