shot@life: my first #blogust

lois and kids

As a Shot@Life Champion, I’m proud to contribute to Blogust ’14Shot@Life’s annual August campaign. For every comment, “like” and share on this post, Walgreens will donate one vaccine, up to 60,000, to a child in need around the world. So before you even read this, please click “like” to provide one vaccine! Then please leave a comment, share on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ and encourage everyone you know to do the same, in order to provide more vaccines. This is the easiest way to truly make a difference.

As moms, our lives are filled with so many firsts. Every new move our child makes is cause for celebration and a bittersweet sign that they’re growing up.

I remember the first time I read the list my mom had compiled in my baby book, documenting even my first lamb chop. I laughed but inside I felt so warm and secure that someone loved me enough to care about that. [Read more…]

make a comment, save a life

Click to read about Blogust and how to save a child's life just by leaving a comment

In the blogging world, comments are currency. Any blogger will tell you there is nothing more valuable than having readers respond to a post.

This month – Blogust, as it should forever be known from now on – Shot@Life is taking that philosophy literally. Thirty-one well-known bloggers, including my friends Chloe Jeffreys and Darryle Pollack, are writing special posts, and Walgreens will donate a vaccine to a child in need for every comment posted on those stories during August. myrdin thompson – change agent and shot@life champion

A couple of months ago, I wrote about my experience as a newly-appointed Shot@Life champion, flying across the country to advocate on Capitol Hill for vaccinations for children around the world.

Shot@Life celebrates its first birthday this week, which also happens to be Global Immunization Week (April 24-30). One of the ways we’re marking this milestone is by interviewing champions and encouraging our readers to become champions themselves. I’ll give you more details about that at the end of this post but, first, let me introduce Myrdin Thompson, who is now  mentor as well as a champion. She is an amazing person, and she will inspire you to get involved and see that every single one of us can make a difference. [Read more…]

Every 20 seconds, a child around the world dies from a disease that could have been prevented by a vaccine. Annually, that number equals almost half the children entering kindergarten in the United States alone this year.

As a mother, I find that devastating.

As a human being, I find it inexcusable. [Read more…]

Muttropolis — for the Doggone Cutest Pet Gifts!

Jessie 3DI am not the kind of person who dresses up my dog in cute little outfits – okay, I did put my 3D glasses on my Newfoundland, Jessie, after the Harry Potter screening so I could post a picture on Facebook – but I do love spoiling her with new toys or special treats, and for those I always turn to Muttropolis.
