I was so happy to pull into the beautiful Hermosa Inn in Phoenix only to find an equally beautiful 2017 Volkswagen Passat 1.8 SEL Premium waiting for me to test-drive for the week.
The Passat was the first car we bought our son when he turned 16 so I have fond memories of it — especially how safe it felt during a couple of harrowing moments (only to me) when I drove with him on the freeway for the first time.
We had done a lot of research so we knew it had high safety ratings and was a great car for a teenage boy.
Apparently, it’s always a great car for a 50-something woman. [Read more…]
Last time I tested a Mazda3 Grand Touring 5-Door was when I took a Thelma and Louise-like road trip with my friend, Helene.
Because it got us safely through a couple of very harrowing moments, when it was time for me to drive to Mesa, Arizona — an area I was visiting for the first time — my choice of cars was black and white: the Mazda3 Grand Touring 5-Door, of course.
The car’s exterior was white — Snowflake (appropriately, ha ha!) White Pearl, to be exact — and the interior had sleek Black leather-trimmed sport seats. [Read more…]
I received a Best Buy gift card for writing this post. Opinions are, as always, 100% my own.
As a film critic, I use Google Chromecast all the time to send screening links from my laptop to our TV so I can watch on a bigger screen while still being able to do my work. It’s one of the best devices we ever bought.
I was thrilled to see that there’s now a Google Chromecast Audio so I can do the same thing with my music.
Especially since I can’t stop listening to the soundtrack from Hamilton. [Read more…]
I have to admit I felt bad when I saw my husband’s reaction to the Mazda CZ-5 Grand Touring AWD as it pulled up in front of our house. [Read more…]
Last year, Michael, our kids, my parents and I all received emails from a company called Tribute, saying that my brother-in-law was putting together a video montage for my father-in-law’s 90th birthday and asking us to participate.
I was intrigued by the idea, especially since the family videos we created more than a decade ago for our kids’ Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are among my most prized possessions. [Read more…]
I returned from back to back press trips recently to find the biggest package I’ve ever seen waiting for me.
Now, I believe that good things come in small packages but I also know that great things often come in gigantic packages. [Read more…]

Okay, everyone knows I don’t cook. But I sure do eat, and I love being introduced to new products.
So, I was excited when Babble Boxx asked me to check out their “Home and Harvest” box for fall and share it with you. Here’s what was inside: [Read more…]
Thanks to Wescom for sponsoring this post and helping me understand my finances.
Because Michael and I got married so young – he was 24, I was 22 – we had to learn about money together.
Over the past 35 years, we’ve figured out mortgages, tuitions and retirement plans. We’ve dealt with remodels, insurance and healthcare. Every single event has been stressful because we never felt like we had any idea what we were doing.
Enter Wescom Credit Union, which just launched a fantastic financial education program last month, Did You Know?
Through mobile banking experiences, educational programs and complimentary financial consulting, Wescom is helping individuals and families understand banking basics and learn how to manage their own personal finances.
I love this idea because they’ve taken a subject that intimidates so many of us, and broken it down so it’s no longer scary. They’re teaching us all to be financially literate.
Wescom says it hopes to simplify the banking world one individual at a time. According to Debbie Shepherd, Director of Signature Experiences for Wescom, “Our Did You Know financial education portal, Signature Experiences and Big Blue events are designed to meet the needs of individuals with tools and resources that matter most for each stage of life.” [Read more…]
I had no idea, when I got behind the wheel of the new 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited for the first time, it would prove to be the perfect car for my week-long spa trip through Arizona.
Sure, it was beautiful in its Shale Gray Metallic glory but it was so much deeper than that. [Read more…]
