Nothing says Valentine’s Day like chocolate. Check out my interview with Deborah Reinhardt, author of Delectable Destinations: A Chocolate Lover’s Guide to Missouri, on Huffington Post. And the photos? Oh, the photos!Read All Entries
I can’t work out without music. Actually, I can’t do much of anything without music but exercise feels especially torturous without my iPod.
One of the reasons I’ve been able to stick to Jazzercise all these months and see real results is because of the amazing music they play during class. I guess this shouldn’t be surprising because studies have shown that music can increase the intensity and duration of a workout by as much as 15%. [Read more…]
Finding an activity monitor that does the job but is also as elegant as a piece of jewelry would be practically a miracle, right?
Well, cue the choir, because the Misfit Shine is here and it just may transform the fitness gadget industry. The size of a quarter, it’s sleek, simple and sophisticated.
It makes you want to work out so you can look as good as it does. [Read more…]
I never really thought of myself as competitive but, somehow, I find myself competing in four big challenges right now. [Read more…]
I thought this was going to be a pretty lame Halloween because:
1. My nest is empty of trick or treaters

I lost 6 ounces this week. Yay!
This was actually a big deal for me because it means I’m continuing my losing streak (this is the only area in which I want to do that, thank you!), and it was a difficult week to stay in my routine because my husband came home after five weeks of walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. (That’s a whole other story!)
When I went for my weigh-in yesterday, Marne leaned in and quietly asked me how much I wanted to lose before Thanksgiving. “Why are you asking?” I whispered back. “Will I win a prize or something?” (Trust me, the weight loss is prize enough.)
She laughed and explained that the La Jolla Jenny Craig office was doing a challenge, where you pick a pumpkin from their selection and pledge to lose as much as that pumpkin weighs by Thanksgiving.
I’m always up for a challenge so I said I would do it if she would do it with me. We agreed five pounds apiece was a reasonable goal but couldn’t find a five-pound pumpkin so we raised the ante.
Now, we’re each aiming to lose half of the combined weight of the pumpkins we’re holding in the picture. That means six and a half pounds each. Oy.
So who wants to join me? This is a very visual way to see what you’re actually losing. If I can lose the pumpkin I’m holding – plus some of Marnie’s – that will feel so good!
And, with that, I’m off to Jazzercise!
*I received a free month on the program in order to do this review. There was no compensation. The opinions expressed are my own and not influenced in any way. Note: Clients following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week.
A moving guy once told me he’d never seen anyone pack so much into a box. I do the same thing with my luggage. This is not necessarily something to be proud of because I seem to do the same thing with my body. [Read more…]
