I love love love the new Beauty and the Beast movie. One of the best parts, of course, is the Beast’s library, so I wrote “Belle Would Be Enchanted by These 10 Lovely Libraries in Hotels” for USA Today 10Best.Read All Entries
Thanks to Harmony Books for sponsoring this post. All opinions are, as always, 100% mine.
Losing weight has got to be the most common New Year’s resolution — it always seems to be one of mine — so I was eager to read The Prime: Prepare and Repair Your Body for Spontaneous Weight Loss.
Of course, I liked the idea of spontaneous weight loss. And I liked the fact that the book was written by integrative neurologist, Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, above. I always prefer a holistic approach and the fact that one was grounded so strongly in science really appealed to me.
Plus, I was intrigued by the message on the cover that said, “Stop Dieting Backward!” What did that mean? [Read more…]
It seems only fitting that my first post back after two weeks in France would be about food, right?
Well, you can imagine how I felt going back to Jenny Craig this morning after indulging on those chocolate croissants, above, every single morning for breakfast. [Read more…]
Thank goodness for Jenny Craig.
At my weigh-in today, I lost 2 pounds, bringing my grand total to 18 pounds.
This is great and I’m very grateful to the amazing women at Jenny Craig, but I am totally disgusted with myself. [Read more…]
Let me preface this by pointing out that whoever came up with that saying, “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” obviously never took a bite of this.
Let me also point out out that this is not a Jenny Craig food 🙂
Okay, so I was supposed to go for my Jenny Craig weigh-in last Thursday but I postponed it because I thought I had jury duty. (The court was actually closed that day but that’s a whole other story.)
I also postponed it because I had that coconut cream deliciousness from Extraordinary Desserts, above, for Michael’s birthday.
And a large popcorn during the screening of 50 Shades of Grey.
And this roll from our favorite sushi place, Katana. [Read more…]
I’m always interested in hearing about other women’s weight loss struggles and successes, and recently heard about a program called Selvera. [Read more…]
I lost 6 ounces this week. Yay!
This was actually a big deal for me because it means I’m continuing my losing streak (this is the only area in which I want to do that, thank you!), and it was a difficult week to stay in my routine because my husband came home after five weeks of walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. (That’s a whole other story!)
When I went for my weigh-in yesterday, Marne leaned in and quietly asked me how much I wanted to lose before Thanksgiving. “Why are you asking?” I whispered back. “Will I win a prize or something?” (Trust me, the weight loss is prize enough.)
She laughed and explained that the La Jolla Jenny Craig office was doing a challenge, where you pick a pumpkin from their selection and pledge to lose as much as that pumpkin weighs by Thanksgiving.
I’m always up for a challenge so I said I would do it if she would do it with me. We agreed five pounds apiece was a reasonable goal but couldn’t find a five-pound pumpkin so we raised the ante.
Now, we’re each aiming to lose half of the combined weight of the pumpkins we’re holding in the picture. That means six and a half pounds each. Oy.
So who wants to join me? This is a very visual way to see what you’re actually losing. If I can lose the pumpkin I’m holding – plus some of Marnie’s – that will feel so good!
And, with that, I’m off to Jazzercise!
*I received a free month on the program in order to do this review. There was no compensation. The opinions expressed are my own and not influenced in any way. Note: Clients following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week.
