crest pro-health takes on tartar

Crest Pro Health

I hate going to the dentist.

Although Dr. G is actually a very nice man and I would be happy to go for coffee with him (which he would probably frown upon because it would stain my teeth), I have had enough tooth issues in my lifetime to dread my annual visits.

Because I would like to see him as little as possible, I am always looking for products that will help keep my mouth in good shape.

So I jumped at the chance to try new Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection Rinse. [Read more…]

I am livid after watching Fed Up, the documentary narrated by Katie Couric and billed as “the film the food industry doesn’t want you to see.”

Honestly, I almost turned down this project because, like so many people, I found the whole subject of incontinence embarrassing.
The more I researched it and spoke to people who live with this issue, though, I realized the worst thing we can do for it – or any issue, for that matter – is keep it hidden.

meagan mccrary on yoga for midlifers

Meagan McCrary

This is Meagan McCrary. Not me.

My husband swears by yoga. He takes a class almost every day, and it’s become so important to him, it’s made me think about trying it myself.

I’ve been reading Pick Your Yoga Practice: Exploring and Understanding Different Styles of Yoga by Meagan McCrary, and am shocked by how many different types there are. Of course I’ve heard of Bikram and Ashtanga but Moksha and Jivamukti? [Read more…]

And neither could these.

Are there any words more frightening than that title?

As I admitted to you after Thanksgivukkah last week, I indulged a little (a little? ha ha ha!) too much in my mom’s irresistible potato latkes and mandel bread. [Read more…]

my jenny craig and jazzercise thanksgiving challenge!

We're losing the amount of weight of these pumpkins

Join us in losing these pumpkins by Thanksgiving!

I lost 6 ounces this week. Yay!

This was actually a big deal for me because it means I’m continuing my losing streak (this is the only area in which I want to do that, thank you!), and it was a difficult week to stay in my routine because my husband came home after five weeks of walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. (That’s a whole other story!)

When I went for my weigh-in yesterday, Marne leaned in and quietly asked me how much I wanted to lose before Thanksgiving. “Why are you asking?” I whispered back. “Will I win a prize or something?” (Trust me, the weight loss is prize enough.)

She laughed and explained that the La Jolla Jenny Craig office was doing a challenge, where you pick a pumpkin from their selection and pledge to lose as much as that pumpkin weighs by Thanksgiving.

I’m always up for a challenge so I said I would do it if she would do it with me. We agreed five pounds apiece was a reasonable goal but couldn’t find a five-pound pumpkin so we raised the ante.

Now, we’re each aiming to lose half of the combined weight of the pumpkins we’re holding in the picture. That means six and a half pounds each. Oy.

So who wants to join me? This is a very visual way to see what you’re actually losing. If I can lose the pumpkin I’m holding – plus some of Marnie’s – that will feel so good!

And, with that, I’m off to Jazzercise!

*I received a free month on the program in order to do this review. There was no compensation. The opinions expressed are my own and not influenced in any way. Note: Clients following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week.
