Midweek at The Oasis Week 1

Hello and Happy Wednesday from The Oasis!

First off, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Amber Readmond, and I’m the new editor here at Midlife at The Oasis.

I know what you’re thinking, but don’t worry—Lois is OKAY. No, I don’t have her tied up in a basement somewhere. 😂 Lois has officially entrusted the crystal wand of The Oasis to me, and I’m so grateful (and beyond excited!) to be stepping into her fabulous, sparkly shoes. Lois is one of my best friends and favorite humans, and I’m honored that she chose me to continue this journey with you all!

A Little About Me

  • First off, I’m a Gen X Swiftie. Let’s just get that out of the way. 😉 Honestly, that’s my whole personality—there you go!
  • I’m a single mom to my 14-year-old son, Beckett. He’s the funniest, smartest, most empathetic kid, and I’m so proud to be his mom.
  • We rescued our labradoodle, Iven, in 2019. (Fun fact: Thanks to a Wisdom Panel DNA test, we discovered he has a sister—and we got to meet her and her human mom!)
  • I recently achieved my dream of (finally) getting my bachelor’s degree in Information Science from the University of North Florida—at 45! 🎓
  • They say the body is made up of two-thirds water. Mine is two-thirds Diet Coke.
  • I’m a former flight attendant, and I love to travel. I’ve been to 32 countries so far. Airports feel like home, and I can happily live out of a suitcase.
  • My favorite party story? That one time I randomly ran into Paul McCartney in a store in London.
  • My guitar is my emotional support instrument and favorite travel companion. There’s nothing better than playing it on a beach somewhere far away.

My Week This Week

This week, I’ve really enjoyed diving into The Oasis and getting my feet wet in WordPress! There’s still plenty of work to do behind the scenes, but I’d love your feedback on what you think so far. Feel free to leave a comment below!

I also just finished The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. This might be my favorite personal development book ever (well, technically I listened to it on Audible!). Mel reads it herself, shares personal stories, and makes it feel like you’re sitting down for a heart-to-heart with a friend. It’s the only book where I listened through the acknowledgements… and cried right along with her in them. Highly recommend! You can read my full review here.

And guess what? I just got back from an amazing trip to New Zealand and Australia—with Lois! We had the most fabulous (and hilarious) time. She included one of my favorite photos from the trip—see if you can guess which one it is! You can also read Lois’ article about the trip in Forbes here.

Let’s Do Midlife Together

I’m so excited to get to know everyone here at The Oasis and grow this community into a space where we can navigate midlife together. Feel free to drop suggestions for what you’d like to see here in the coming months—I’m all ears!

Talk soon,
Amber Readmond
