Note: I am participating in a Vibrant Influencer Network campaign for Depend. I am receiving a fee for posting; however, the opinions expressed in this post are, as always, my own. I am in no way affiliated with Depend and do not earn a commission or percent of sales. Honestly, I almost turned down this project because, like so many people, I found the whole subject of incontinence embarrassing. The more I researched it and spoke to people who live with this issue, though, I realized the worst thing we can do for it – or any issue, for that matter – is keep it hidden.
Incontinence can affect anyone, from women who have given birth to men who have been treated for prostate cancer. As the Baby Boomers age, incontinence is going to become more prevalent. The sooner we get rid of the stigma attached to it, the easier it will be for people to live normal, active lives.
“Millions of Americans live with bladder control issues, and many of my patients who experience them say their big, bulky incontinence products keep them from doing things they love,” says Jennifer Berman, M.D., urologist, director of the Berman Women’s Wellness Center and Depend brand health expert.
Depend is changing all of that by introducing Depend Underwear with new Fit-Flex protection. Featuring more Lycra strands, it offers – along with the reliable protection that earned Depend its name – a surprisingly smooth and comfortable close-to-the-body fit that isn’t visible under your clothes.
If you want to see how life-changing this can be, just take a look at some of the videos on the Depend website. The videos follow real people, and it’s inspiring to watch them accomplish so much despite their challenges. I was especially moved by the story of Starkeisha, a performer who made a conscious choice not to be embarrassed or hide any more. “Who cares?” she says. “It’s underwear!”
This underwear has allowed so many men and women to take back the active, social lifestyle they’re used to living. In fact, Emmy-winning TV host Mar Jennings has teamed up with Depend to put together some tips, my favorite of which is, “Have a clear vision of what you want ‘you’ and your life to look like in six or 12 months. Start small and think big; the results over time will be impressive.”
Take on the weekend with Depend, and try on a pair of Depend Underwear by ordering a free sample here.
Then feel confident to go out, have fun and keep on laughing.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I blame it on the kids. It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then when I sneeze or cough hard…..oops.
Mama to 5 BLessings says
yes when I laugh, cough and sneeze! That’s what having kids does to us women!
Amy Desrosiers says
After I had my son, I was peeing myself a little too much!! Thankfully exercise helped to tighten those muscles again!!!
Tracie says
I’ve definitely had those moments when it would have been nice to have a little extra protection going on down there. I think that is something most of us moms have experienced.
Debbie Denny says
It is predictable that something like this that effect so many would be so hard to talk about. Good for you.
Debbie L. says
I think the majority of women have had a time or two when they were not able to control. Thank goodness there is a product that will help make everything okay!
Sheryl says
Well, I see that I’m in good company here 🙂
Piper George says
There is a reason I don’t trampoline much! Definitely the kids fault though! It’s like they change all the settings on the way out so your whole body becomes a mystery to you.
Jennifer B says
If I have a very full bladder and then sneeze…LOL! Not enough for Depends but it’s nice to know that they are there when you do need them.
Cathy Chester says
When my dad first had his stroke 14 years ago, I remember going to BJ’s to get him some Depends. It was hanging out of my cart, and I kept running into people from my hometown. I was embarrassed. Nowadays I could care less if that happened, because younger people are also incontinent, and it’s no big deal.
Lois Alter Mark says
Agree. The more everyone learns and shares, the less of a big deal this will be. Hope your dad is doing better now. xo
Pam says
My dad wears Depends after having several “mini-strokes.” They are the only brand we trust!
Lois Alter Mark says
So glad they work, and hope your dad is doing well.
Helene Cohen Bludman says
I am a baby boomer who is thankful that Depend has got my back, or bottom, as the case may be. The day may not be far off that I’ll be tossing those Depends in my shopping cart.
Aly Mashrah says
After having my son this happens to me sometimes when I sneeze too hard.
Lisa @ Grandma's Briefs says
When I visit my grandsons and they ask me to jump on the trampoline with them, I have to tell them, “Let’s all go potty first.” They think I’m doing the potty roundup for their sake, but it’s reallyf or mine!
In all seriousness, though, this is an Important matter. Thanks for sharing, Lois!
Lois Alter Mark says
Too funny! Great that you’re jumping on the trampoline at all! You are a cool grandma, for sure!
Sandra says
I so want that. I had 5 kids in 7 years and I not can not sneeze or jump on a trampoline…love it.
Lisa Jones says

I agree, I blame it on pregnancy… everything just doesn’t work like it used to
Karen @TheMissingNiche says
I’ve worn Depends, I’m about to undergo another surgery so they will be part of my wardrobe for a few weeks afterward. Hate to say it, but they are always in my closet because I never know when my body is going to fall apart again. But hey, they work!
Lois Alter Mark says
Good luck with your surgery, Karen!
Rachael says
It can be an embarrassing talking about bladder control problems, but it’s a part of life. I have bladder leakage when doing some like jumping jacks.
Lois Alter Mark says
So great that you’re doing jumping jacks! And, yes, the more we talk about it, the less embarrassing it will be.
brett says
we use depends for my dad. and honestly there are times like road trips when i think, well, hey, now, i wouldn’t have to stop and get all the kids out of the car to pee, i could just … you know… go
but then what if that’s it and my bladder just decides its’ a free for all?
Lois Alter Mark says
I hear you! I’ve thought, too, how handy they could be on long car rides stuck in traffic …
Estelle says
I remember those pregnancy and after pregnancy days… Good for Depends making the product dare I say more mainstream!
Janeane Davis says
Incontinence is a common problem and it is good to read about it here.
Lois Alter Mark says
If people knew how common it was, they’d feel so much less embarrassed. It’s so much better when everything is out in the open.
Wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas says
I’m in the club, too. 2 babies is all it took, and I have to be really careful when I cough!
Lois Alter Mark says
So do I!
Lexie Lane says
Oh my gosh! that picture is so funny! One of the things I never would have thought I’d find on a blog, but now I have!
