my restoration hardware post made cbs this morning!

Restoration Hardware selfie
I tried to take a selfie with the Restoration Hardware catalogs but they were so heavy, this is the result.

I was so excited when a producer from CBS This Morning contacted me to see if they could use the photos from my post yesterday for a segment about Restoration Hardware’s insane 17-pound catalog drop.

“Sure,” I said. “If I can have lunch with Gayle King.”

Kidding! Of course I said yes (although I did casually mention that Gayle and I were both in Australia with Oprah. I should have also mentioned that when I asked my mom what famous person she’d want to have lunch with, her immediate response was “Gayle.”).

Anyway, they did a fantastic segment, which you can watch here. And, because they’re professionals, they even finessed that unflattering picture of me on the RH step stool.

In a related note, the Charlotte Observer will be featuring my photos in the business section on Sunday. If you happen to live in Charlotte, can you please save me a copy?!

And, if you have any other creative ideas on how to upcycle the RH catalog, please share them. I just started a Pinterest board, which you can follow here.

Let’s make lemonade out of lemons. And door stops out of the catalogs.

  1. As I said this morning, you bumped up my street cred with my kids. Thank you for that and for the laughs! This added picture and the original post gave me a hearty chuckle!

Oh, and Gayle would be lucky to share lunch with you. Really, really lucky!

  2. That was so, so awesome to see!! Chris and I were laughing our tucheses off! But here’s the thing: I think maybe it’s accidentally good they did this. Because yes, it’s only being shipped once, rather than dozens of times. But when you see all of them together you realize just how wasteful all those catalogues really are and maybe that will help affect a change.

    xoxo

  3. LOIS,couldn’t you have raised the stakes even higher and suggested you and Gayle take a road trip as she and Oprah did a few years ago? You could have casually mentioned you hadn’t been in Wisconsin in a long time (ever?) and would just love to see where Jockey wear headquarters is located In the process you could do as they did, just pick someone randomly to visit. Hint, hint. Does this sound too devious or just a typiclal LOIS venture???

  4. No sooner had I read your post about the self-indulgent action of Restoration Hardware, than Robin Roberts was talking about the “lady” who stacked them all up and – – – – – . Wow, way to create a fervor.

  5. Good for you for coming up with the most creative solutions for the catalogs. But I appreciated what they said about the marketing strategy–“…you have to be online, you have to be in print, you have to be everywhere.” Thanks. ~Kathy

  6. Lois – I was so mad when I got that stupid STACK in the mail and wanted to write them a complaint! I am so thrilled to have you be my voice and better yet, on my favorite morning show! That was wonderful! So proud of you, my friend!!!

  7. LOVED this and related to it big time! Especially the guilt part! And I LOVED the picture of you, AND that you shared it with us. Awesome!

  8. This was so funny – congrats on the piece and keeping me in stitches. Those piles were insane…add rubber feet to your step stool and you’ve got an amazing yoga stepper!

  9. That is so awesome! Congratulations! I love how you used them as a step stool too funny! I also have their catalogs and wow way too big and heavy that’s for sure!
