These are our favorites: the ones that entertained us the most, not necessarily the ones we think will win Academy Awards!
1. Up In The Air. The smartest and most original movie of the year, with perfect performances by George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
2. It’s Complicated. We want to live in a Nancy Meyers movie house, and grow older as gracefully as Meryl Streep. Plus, Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski steal every scene they’re in.
3. Up. The love story of the year, captured in gorgeous Pixar animation.
4. A Serious Man. The Coen brothers can do no wrong in our book, and we hate to admit we “know” a lot of these characters intimately.
5.(500) Days of Summer. Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt make IKEA sexy in this smile-inducing romantic comedy.
6. Julie and Julia. Meryl Streep as Julia Child – need we say more?
7. Summer Hours. This quietly beautiful French film follows three siblings dealing with the things and people they value, after their mother’s death.
8. An Education. A teenage girl learns about life from an older man in 1960s England.
9. Fantastic Mr. Fox. Wes Anderson takes on Roald Dahl, and the result is an animated joy for adults and sophisticated kids.
10. The Blind Side. Sure, it’s commercial but it’s also inspiring, true and proof that Sandra Bullock is as much a force to be reckoned with as the mom she portrays.
