Okay, moms, it’s time to take back the media. All our daughters — and sons, for that matter — see on TV, online, in magazines and ads are females being sexualized: girls in skimpy clothes, dumbing themselves down and shaking their booty to impress boys who aren’t worth the time of day. Aren’t those girls on Jersey Shore embarrassed to be shown throwing themselves at idiots with names like “The Situation,” trying to impress them by going to bed with them and ending up being bragged about as a conquest the next day? Is that what they want for their 15 minutes of fame? Have we not come further than this in the 21st century?
Hosted by MTV personality Amber Madison and opened by Academy Award-winning actress/activist Geena Davis, SPARKSummit held a day-long event in New York last month to empower girls and teach them how to become part of the solution and choose alternatives to objectification.
Grab your girls, watch this video together and spark your own movement.
