We have fond memories of waiting for the big September issue of “Seventeen” to come out when we were teenagers. Now it’s “Vogue” we look forward to, and we remember trying to balance the four pounder that took up our whole mailbox a couple of years ago.
That September 2007 issue of “Vogue” was the biggest and heaviest magazine ever, and is now the star of its own documentary, “The September Issue.”
This fascinating movie takes a behind-the-scenes look at how that issue was created, gives you a rare glimpse into the real Anna Wintour – not the one in “The Devil Wears Prada” – and introduces you to the brilliant Grace Coddington, who’s been responsible for the magazine’s most talked-about images for almost two decades.
It’s no surprise that, although it was only released in half a dozen theaters, the movie opened with the fifth highest all-time per-screen average for a documentary. We all want to know more about the iconic woman behind the sunglasses, and the filmmakers definitely deliver, taking us inside her office and her Manhattan and Hamptons houses, and giving us personal insights from her daughter, her staff and the legend herself.
Make sure to catch the stylish “September Issue” when it comes to a theater near you this month.
