I admit a serial killer on the loose is an odd choice for a musical — which is one of the reasons I was absolutely riveted by London Road. Based on a British stage play about a real-life crime, the movie version of London Road is vibrant theatre in its own right.
There is something about The Light Between Oceans that just makes me sob. I cried at the end of the book, and I cried at the end of the movie. And, oh, I’m talking the ugly cry, with tears running down my cheeks and salting my popcorn. In other words, I loved it.
It’s so refreshing to see a smart movie with a thought-provoking story and well-written dialogue. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that Indignation is that kind of movie since it’s based on a Philip Roth novel.
