Don’t worry, I’m not starting to refer to myself in third person.
Yet.
And I have no illusions of grandeur that I am pretty hot stuff. OMG just the idea of that makes me laugh.
But my name?
Well, if the Loises who have come before me are any indication, yes, the name Lois is something special.
So I’m writing this post as a shout-out to my Facebook friend Lois Stanton Van Dahm and all the Loises she so graciously introduced me to who, every single day, make me proud to share their name.
I told you about meeting Lois online through my friend Julia Miles Robinson, and I wrote about the Lois Club and the amazing Lois Fight Song video (which you have to watch on my post because you will die laughing) last year. Since then, Lois and I interact regularly on Facebook — she is constantly tempting me with donut pictures — and she just sent me those buttons, above, with a note that made my day.
It makes my day pretty much any time I read one of Lois’ hilarious posts or when a Lois from somewhere far away emails me to welcome me to the club.
These women are so inspiring, and I am genuinely touched by every one of them.
So, I am now on two missions, which I hope you’ll help me with, and which may inspire all the older Loises to get on Twitter, where, by the way, there is a #LoisClub hashtag!
Here we go:
1. I want to meet 87-year-old Lois Stanton Van Dahm in person and tell her how much she means to me. Yes, that’s a little cheesy but she does live in Wisconsin, after all. Ha ha! Oh, she also makes really cute scarves that look like cheese and I hope she’ll send me a photo so I can write about them and we can all order them. Anyway, I want to attend a Lois Club meeting with her, and I hope you’ll Tweet this to Ellen DeGeneres to help make it happen!
[Tweet “.@TheEllenShow pls send @loisaltermark to Wisconsin to meet #Lois Van Dahm 4 a #LoisClub meeting!”]
2. I want Julep to name a nail polish color Lois. I will have to take a consensus of my fellow Loises on exactly what color that would be — just leave a comment below, ladies! — but I think we should at least get the ball rolling by Tweeting Jane Park, CEO and Founder of Julep.
[Tweet “Dear @JaneParkJulep The #LoisClub would love for you to please name a @julepmaven polish #Lois!”]
All of us Loises thank you in advance for helping us get things done. We would take you to Starbucks to show our appreciation but … really?
Doreen McGettigan says
I hope you get to meet and it would be so kind of Ellen to make that happen. I’m wondering if I should start a Doreen Club. There are not that many of us. But there is one other Doreen McGettigan in the world and she is mad at me because I wouldn’t change my name on Facebook for her.
I am curious to find out if there will be a majority among the Lois’ for a color choice.
Lois Alter Mark says
That’s wild that there’s another Doreen McGettigan! To me, you are the one and only. And why would she possibly expect you to change your name? Thanks so much for Tweeting. Would love to honor the Loises in some way!
Tam Warner Minton says
My biological grandmother was an absolutely lovely person….her name was Lois.
Carol Cassara says
Noo. Not NOIS??? I think they were too busy thinking of something clever to say to you about race, right?
Carolann says
Lol to that Nois. Those folks over at SB’s never ever get it right. You should see what they do my name! lol Tweeted for you too! I hope you get to go!
Lorane says
Lois is infact a unique name. How do you pronounce yours? It cool you have a Lois fan club
Ines Roe says
I know there are people out there that have my name too – Ines – but I have never met one. It would be interesting to meet one. Maybe I need an Ines club
Lois Alter Mark says
I think you should start one! Everyone should have their own name club!
Julia Robinson says
I love watching the two of you Loises interact. I’m so glad I introduced you. I think Ellen would LOVE chatting with Lois Van Dahm…and with you. I think I need to come along though!! 🙂 You know you can stay with me any time you come to WI. Tweeted your ideas – and can’t wait to read your next update on the Lois Club.
Lois Alter Mark says
Are you kidding? We won’t go anywhere without you! You are an honorary Lois! We are going to work this out, even if Ellen doesn’t help it along – but wouldn’t this make a perfect story for her? Thank you for introducing us – and just for being you. xo
Mama to 5 BLessings says
NOIS! LOL What an interesting story!
Lois says
My color choice is PURPLE…. I have a purple house… Nice purple not ugly. My inside of the house is a lilac mist with a smoky purple accent wall in the family room. I wear almost all purple, every day… some purple just weren’t meant to share.
My flowers in the yard are mostly purple with white amongst them except for my colorful rose garden.
I am known for my extrinsically of wearing purple clothing. My Dr comments on my shoes, shoelaces, pants, top, jacket, purse, and drinking cup coordinating purples. The kids at church ask me if I know I am wearing two different color of sox. I tell them I have another pair exactly like this at home. They raise their eyebrows and shake their heads. Really! It makes sense to me.

You are the first Lois I ever met – that makes you pretty special. I did not meet ANY Andis until I started blogging and now I have met 6!
Liz Mays says
It would be so cool if you guys could meet up! Loises are awesome!
leanne@creestingthehill says
I am SO jealous that you have a Lois club – nobody has started a Leanne club – maybe we haven’t been around long enough or maybe we aren’t awesome enough – I’ll have to look into it because being a Lois sounds fabulous!
Ruth Curran says
Wouldn’t a soundtrack of the first face-to-face meeting of the Lois Club be fun? Every Lois I’ve ever met has been special! My name makes people nostalgic — so many people had a great Aunt or some other ancient relative named Ruth and they tell me about them.I bet that doesn’t happen to Miley….
Amethyst Moon says
This was such a fun post. It is so awesome that you have made such a great connection with another Lois. I hope you get to meet the others.
