My son, Alex, got married last weekend, which was so exciting and made it even more interesting for me to read the results of a national survey by Erie Insurance about wedding gifts couples didn’t register for but wish they had, gifts they were glad they registered for and, also, ones they regretted.
When Michael and I got married, I don’t think we even registered. We don’t cook and knew we didn’t want sets of dishes or fancy silverware. One personal gift I would highly recommend, though, is this electronic picture frame which I’m hoping Alex and Julie will send photos to while they’re on their honeymoon (hint, hint).
Alex and Julie’s registry was mostly filled with experiences. Sure, they asked for household items they needed but their list also included lots of travel and activities like diving and dining. Since they’re now on their honeymoon enjoying many of those gifts, I think they’re pretty happy with their registry.
According to the Erie Insurance national wedding registry survey, though, these are the most common items couples didn’t register for but wish they had.
I can totally understand the robotic vacuum cleaner because Michael and I use ours all the time. I think it should be on every couple’s wedding registry, and I’m glad Alex and Julie got one. They are, too.
I was definitely surprised by some of those other items, though. Food saver/vacuum seal system? Really?
You can watch the video to see how people react to the idea of registering for money (spoiler: they have very strong reactions!) and what gifts they recommend including on a registry here.
Erie Insurance protects people’s belongings as well as their homes, and it’s important to know that you might have to add a rider to your homeowner’s insurance, covering specific expensive items.
In fact, many respondents did receive and insure items like fine china, silver and crystal as well as valuable artwork.
You should also consider adding your engagement ring to your insurance policy — something Alex and Julie did and something I wish I’d done since my diamond fell out at the Del Mar Racetrack years ago and I never found it.
And, hey, if you really want to ensure a newly-married couple lives happily ever after, the insurance policy itself would actually be a great wedding gift!
