Tell us a little about your background. When did you start making jewelry?
I was always involved with some type of arts and crafts as a kid but it was a high school metal smithing class that propelled me into the creative arts field. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from California State University, Long Beach in 1977.
What inspires you when coming up with your designs?
I would say nature is my biggest inspiration. I love everything about the outdoors — the colors, patterns, textures, EVERYTHING!
When I came across your Bird’s Nest necklaces, it was love at first sight. They are so beautiful and meaningful, and I want one for Mother’s Day! Is there a story behind them?
The locket design came as a result of a jewelry class I took a few years ago that focused on cold connections, which is any method of joining metals without the use of a torch. That is also where I began mixing metals in my designs. The bird nest locket itself signifies the bond between mothers and their children. We all know how single-minded a mother bird can be!!
What is your most popular piece?
This time of year it is most certainly the Bird Nest Necklace but my personalized jewelry designs are very popular.
What is your own favorite piece?
Whichever piece I’m currently working on!
On your Etsy site, it says that sea glass is one of your favorite materials. As a fellow San Diegan, is that a reflection of being a beach girl?
Actually, I haven’t found much sea glass in San Diego but I always look when I’m at the beach. It’s the joy of the hunt that I enjoy. You never know when or what sea glass treasure might be found. The colors are so beautiful, it’s hard to imagine it was once trash!
How would you like people to describe your jewelry?
I’ve heard people describe my jewelry designs as feminine, delicate, detailed and organic. I just want them to feel good when they wear it!
Is crafting your full-time job now?
Yes. I spent many years as a stay at home mom but one day about 10 years ago I wandered into a bead store when I was in Phoenix and was instantly transported to that ‘creative place’ in my mind again and haven’t looked back.
What is the most rewarding part of creating jewelry?
The process. Working on my jewelry is almost like therapy. Probably the same feeling when you’re writing, peaceful. You get into a different part of your brain that sort of shuts out everything else.
What trends or changes have you noticed in the crafting field since you started?
I would have to say the biggest trend I’ve seen recently is the use of recycled materials and anything that is environmentally friendly.
Your birthday is this week – happy birthday! What does someone possibly get you since you already make the most unique gifts yourself?!
How about some lottery tickets!

Beautiful jewlery! I love silver, mixing metals, and especially sea glass! I need a winning lotto ticket so I can buy it ALL!
