If you’re a Facebook friend of mine, you know that I spent the weekend cleaning my closet. (Yes, I lead a very glamorous life.) I will be writing about the surprising lessons I learned during this task later but, meanwhile, here’s a very important question for you.
See the sweater in the picture? My husband rolls his eyes every time he sees it hanging in the closet, which is, uh, every day for years. It kind of stands out. I’ve never worn it because I’m not sure if it’s really cute or really horrendous. I am sure I would never have bought it if it wasn’t from Anthropologie which, I guess, should give me my answer.
So, it’s up to you, my dear readers. Do I keep it or toss it? I think I know what you’re going to say and I’m already Googling “felting” so I can turn it into squares to make a sweater blanket …
UPDATE: You all make me laugh so hard, and I especially love those of you who tried to be nice while telling me to get rid of it. Soooo, next time you see this sweater, it will be on a tree or lamp post or whatever in Lockport, New York, care of Ellen Martin who I was lucky enough to meet at the TMS Family Travel conference in Niagara Falls. Very excited that my sweater will be turned into art, and would love to do a post of all of your own ugly questionable sweaters. Send your pictures to me at lois@midlifeattheoasis.com. And thank you for saving me from going out in public wearing this.
Yes, sweater blanket sounds just about right.
You’re adorable….but I’m going on a no, for the sweater…remember what Carson Kresley says…” if you haven’t worn it in the past 12 months, out it goes!” Plus, its too short…(but I still love you!)
I still love you too, and that sweater hasn’t been worn ever — and won’t be!
It will make a very nice blanket
I think it would make a very nice anything but sweater!
BFF! You look fantastic but if you are not sure, then may I suggest that you yarn bomb a tree with it? It would look great. My new evil plan in Lockport is to yarnbomb the downtown area. [facebook page yarn bomb lockport]. So maybe you can do it at your house OR you can send it to us and we’ll do it and send you a pic of your very own tree or lamp post in Lockport! xox
I LOVE that idea, and I am SO sending you the sweater! Thank you, future mayor of Lockport. xoxo
BFF! i feel like i have won the sweater lottery. Cannot wait to bomb with it.
Xo
I am SO excited! xo
someeone else needs that sweater more than you do, Lois!
I think anyone needs it more than I do!
don’t forrget to send pictures of everything that gets wrapped!
I will definitely post Ellen’s photos! Thrilled that my sweater will be turned into something much nicer!
I’m bringing scissors to lunch today. We are starting the blanket there! =)
Crying laughing!
Stacey would say, well, you know.
I, on the other hand, well, would agree with her.
You are adorable, but the sweater should go to consignment!
This is definitely a what not to wear! And I will definitely not be wearing it!
I’m not quite sure what I find more distracting — the popcorn buttons or the shapes. But, here’s the thing — if you like it, you should wear it — and not just because you probably paid more for it than you should have, owing to it’s “Anthropologie” tag. If you do choose to keep it and wear it, may I suggest you do so with the confidence and joie de vivre with which you approach everything else that you do? Perhaps pair it with a jaunty hat or some orange flats. 🙂
P.S. Anyone who knows me would NEVER ask for OR take fashion advice from me. As you may recall, I am the woman who decided my “Mets” hat and “Old Navy” flip-flops were appropriate for the BEA conference, LOL! (In my defense, I was having a bad hair day and I was required to switch to the flip flops as a result of my plantar fasciitis — they were NOT the shoes I left the house in!) The idea that someone, somewhere, has photographic evidence of my poor fashion choices and that they are immortalized IN a photo with Randi Zuckerberg who was, herself, wearing a fabulous pair of Jimmy Choo’s gnaws at that part of my brain that houses my self-respect nearly every day.
You are always awesome, Jackie. Switch Yankees for Mets, and Uggs for Old Navy, and you have my usual look! And I appreciate your unwarranted confidence that I could actually pull off this sweater in any possible way! xo
Consignment that puppy!
Ha!
I love the idea of bombing a tree with it!! That would be a fun way to use it. My theory is if it hasn’t been on my in the last year, it needs to go to someone who will wear it.
Besides, when you get rid of some things, you make room for the new stuff you’ll get in the near future!
I love the tree bombing idea, too, and am definitely sending it to Ellen because she is a pro! And I have already bought some new stuff so I sort of worked backwards on this one!
I think it would make a fabulous and whimsical pillow with the buttons along the front. But my vote is definitely on the side of “repurpose” rather than “wear”… Even Anthropologie has a miss sometimes.
Ooh, I love the idea of a pillow! And definitely agree it would look better as anything other than something to wear!
What were you thinking when you bought it? It’s time to recycle – give it to Goodwill.
I apparently wasn’t thinking at all! It will be recycled in Lockport, NY!
Love you girlfriend- but I’m not ‘felting’ it, if ya know what I mean…..
Oh, I know — the sweater is going to be bombed!
Though I’m sure you could pull it off, my vote is to pull it off. Sorry girlfriend – it’s a no.
I bet you’re wondering how you ever lived with me!
It should definitely go!
It is going!
I actually like that sweater! I even have one (its vintage) like it. (Ill send you a pic.) but, as my mom would say, if five people say you’re drunk, you’d better go lie down. So a prospective pillow it is. Now I wonder whether I should trash mine too!
Mindy, send me a picture! And I love your mom’s philosophy!
OMG I love you guys! Am going to update my post right now!!
How many cozies could you make with that thing? Hmm… tea cozy, frying pan handle cozy, ohhh… and one of those Barbie Doll dress toilet paper cozy things… you’d make a killing on Etsy!
Ha ha! I am so not a cozy kind of girl — how did I ever end up with that sweater in the first place?!
Hahaha! Well, I’m glad a decision has already been made about the sweater Lois! Being raised in the South, I was taught that “if ya can’t say something nice…don’t say anything at all!” LOL. However…it would make a super-cute winter doggie sweater! Love the buttons too! See? I found something nice to say about it!
OMG too funny!! I have definitely tested that saying with this sweater! Thank you for finding something nice to say about it!
KEEP IT! That sweater could be repurposed for a Fugly Christmas Sweater Event… just add some tinsle, etc.
It is just plain Fugly!
When we first arrived in the States, I was fascinated by the Christmas sweater idea (it is mid Summer in SA at Christmas time) I bought several until I saw the error of my ways 😉
You probably looked adorable in them! Do you have pictures?!
I came back to re-read your original post and I’m laughing at what everyone wrote about your sweater. I’ve changed my mind…..it’s a lovely sweater and I’m glad it didn’t end up in the rag bin. Keep warm, Mrs. Martin!
