I lost 6 ounces this week. Yay!
This was actually a big deal for me because it means I’m continuing my losing streak (this is the only area in which I want to do that, thank you!), and it was a difficult week to stay in my routine because my husband came home after five weeks of walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. (That’s a whole other story!)
When I went for my weigh-in yesterday, Marne leaned in and quietly asked me how much I wanted to lose before Thanksgiving. “Why are you asking?” I whispered back. “Will I win a prize or something?” (Trust me, the weight loss is prize enough.)
She laughed and explained that the La Jolla Jenny Craig office was doing a challenge, where you pick a pumpkin from their selection and pledge to lose as much as that pumpkin weighs by Thanksgiving.
I’m always up for a challenge so I said I would do it if she would do it with me. We agreed five pounds apiece was a reasonable goal but couldn’t find a five-pound pumpkin so we raised the ante.
Now, we’re each aiming to lose half of the combined weight of the pumpkins we’re holding in the picture. That means six and a half pounds each. Oy.
So who wants to join me? This is a very visual way to see what you’re actually losing. If I can lose the pumpkin I’m holding – plus some of Marnie’s – that will feel so good!
And, with that, I’m off to Jazzercise!
*I received a free month on the program in order to do this review. There was no compensation. The opinions expressed are my own and not influenced in any way. Note: Clients following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs per week.

What a great contest! I hope you lose your pumpkin and then some! Me….I’m not good at contests. However my challenge will be to continue to go daily to jazzercise forever! I’ve been going every single day since the third week of June. I’ve only missed 2 days! So that’s my challenge. (Oh….and my pumpkin outside my font door is about 10 pounds…way too much of a challenge!) Good luck, and I know you can do it, my dear Lois!

That’s amazing that you’ve only missed 2 days in 4 months! I’m so impressed! I just celebrated my 25th class — woo hoo. No wonder you don’t need to lose any pumpkins. Thanks for always being so supportive! xo

Challenges are so helpful! In two more days, I’ll celebrate 100 days in a row of exercise!
Lois Alter Mark says
Wow! That’s awesome! Congrats!

I think that’s such a great tool, using a pumpkin to make the challenge more visual and real. After all, who wouldn’t want to lose a pumpkin . . . well at least on our scale.
Lois Alter Mark says
The pumpkins definitely put the weight in perspective!

A great challenge, for sure. I also wanna get rid of cellulite and loose skin. Got any magic for that?

Jazzercise!

Hooray for Lois. I am so proud of you! You look great in this photo, too.
Diet and exercise. My, my how I miss you. I’d love to take the challenge but unsure about starting Jenny Craig. The one diet I never tried. Any pep talks or advice?
Lois Alter Mark says
I don’t want to jinx it but it’s been pretty easy. Because I don’t cook, the Jenny Craig meals are perfect for me — and they’re delicious. Plus, I get to have triple chocolate cheesecake every single night. You would absolutely be able to do it.

That’s great you LOST ounces despite your husband’s return. Woo hoo! Good luck with the great pumpkin challenge! Here’s my cheer for you (yes, I was once upon a time a cheerleader):
Hey, hey you can do it
If you set your mind to it
If you set your mind to it
You can DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!
Yay, LOIS! (Imagine me doing a hurkie jump there!)
Lois Alter Mark says
OMG you wrote me a song! I love this, and am now totally inspired! Will you send me a video of you cheering and, of course, doing your famous jump so I can post it with my next update?! Seriously! xo

You are my hero! You have stayed focused and strong, and look at how fabulous you look. Wish I could go to Jazzercise with you.
Lois Alter Mark says
I wish you could go with me, too, Helene! That would be so much fun!
