10 reasons the yankees should send me to women’s mini-fantasy camp

Lois - Yankee cap

Ever since I learned the Yankees offer a mini fantasy camp just for women, it’s been on my bucket list.

I know. You don’t look at me and think, β€œWow, now there’s an athlete.”

But I bet you do look at me and think, β€œOMG, she would have a blast down there and would write some totally wackadoodle posts about her experience.”

Exactly!

So here are ten reasons I should cover this event. There’s no contest or anything like that. I just think I would be a great blogger ambassador for it! If you agree, I hope you’ll take a minute to Tweet this to the Yankees for me. Honestly, even if you don’t agree — or even if you’re (shudder) a Red Sox fan — please just help a girl out here:

Why I Should Be A Blogger Ambassador for the Yankees Women’s Mini-Fantasy Camp

1. I helped the Yankees win the 1999 World Series. Tino Martinez got a hit every time I went to the garage. So, loyal fan that I am, I hung out in the garage whenever he was up at bat. And, ahem, the Yankees won the Series.

2. I agreed to move from New York to San Diego in 1998, and the Yankees swept the Padres in the World Series. Coincidence? I think not.

3. I volunteered as a Room Parent every year so my son wouldn’t get in trouble when we pulled him out of school to go down to Spring Training.

4. I’ve played shortstop. When each mom had to take over her daughter’s position in the big Mother/Daughter softball game, I just know Derek Jeter was laughing his head off smiling somewhere. Speaking of which …

5. I posted a note to Derek Jeter on Facebook, asking him to please schedule his 3000th hit for the day my son was going to be at the game. He did.

6. I came up with a Yankees theme for my son’s Bar Mitzvah that, twelve years later, guests still talk about fondly. Wait till you see the video with my husband as George Steinbrenner.

7. I wore my Yankees cap proudly the few years we lived in Boston even though it meant I may never be served one of those amazing cannolis at Mike’s Bakery.

8. I have a little piece of a painted wall I scraped off the old Yankee Stadium.

9. I cried with my sister when Thurman Munson died.

10. I would make my family unbelievably proud. There is nothing that would delight my father and father-in-law more than seeing me in an official Yankees uniform.

11 (Because I always go above and beyond). I was definitely meant to wear vertical stripes.

  1. I tweeted and sincerely hope you get to do it! That would be so exciting for all of us to hear about it. I loved the list so they need to pick you for sure. “HEAR ME YANKEES”!!!!!

  2. I agree… You are the best candidate I can see for the Yankees Womens Mini Camp. …. Even though I am a Pittsburg Steelers fan. Yes I am…. and like Robin,… If Pittsburgh ever does anything like this. I am their girl… I mean old lady.
    Wishing you lots of luck!!

  3. Even I, a dyed-in-the-wool Mets fan would read your posts about Yankees mini-camp, plus, I’ll bet the video will be worth a few laughs. And, you know me, I’m all about the laughs πŸ™‚

P.S. I tweeted your tweet. Good luck!

  4. This was absolutely wonderful. Though I am a little partial to the Red Sox. Way back when I was a girl in Florida, the Twins trained in Orlando and we had “season” tix. My dad would take me out of school if it was a great game. The Yankees in town definitely was one of those games. Lou Piniella, Willie Randolph and Bucky Dent — fun. You definitely need to get to Fantasy Camp. To heck with blog posts — I want the book. πŸ™‚

  5. I love that you helped them just by running to the garage, I do the same by rooting against any team I want to win – If I cheer them on they lose! I hope you make it, the follow up stories would be fun.

  6. I hope you get to go!! I am a DIE HARD Royals fan. I am a born and raised Kansas girl – go BLUE! Gotta say, I am so incredibly proud of my Royals right now πŸ˜€

But as in love with KC as I am, you sound even MORE in love with your Yankees. I think that is awesome.

  7. Those are all totally great reasons and I do hope they send you. We are big Yankee fans here as well since I used to live not too far from the Stadium in the Bronx. πŸ™‚

  8. I am such a good friend that I’ll say that I hope you can go. You see, I grew up in a Dodger-loving house (my dad lived to go to Ebbetts Field in his youth) and my husband is a die-hard SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS FAN. You know, the team who made it to the WORLD SERIES this year?

So I’m a good friend by saying I hope you go to Yankees camp, because growing up I wasn’t allowed to speak the name of that “Y” team or go to their stadium!! But I love you so much I’ll cheer you on as Derek Jeter watches YOU hit one out of the ballpark!
