I may be writing this post from Utah now. Or Wisconsin. Or even Nashville, Tennessee. I’ll never tell.
You see, last year at this time, Kia was nice enough to let us test the new Sorento to drive up to the beautiful Park Hyatt Aviara to spend the weekend at the LPGA Kia Classic.
Nine months later, we bought the car.
Last week, Kia was nice enough to let us return to the Park Hyatt Aviara for the LPGA Kia Classic, this time test driving the new K900.
Really, Kia? Like you didn’t know exactly what was going to happen.
Michael is ready to buy the car.
We’ve driven a lot of cars over the past year and, although we’ve tested some really nice ones, none of them have made us as googly-eyed as the Sorento. Until now.
Michael cannot stop talking about this K900.
“Dad, it’s amazing,” I heard him tell his father, in a hushed tone of voice akin to reverence, over the phone the other night. “It’s so quiet and smooth and luxurious. It’s way better than the Lexus.”
It is.
“You wouldn’t believe the way you can program it on cruise control to stay a certain distance behind the car in front of you,” I heard him explain to our son, in his teacherly, “listen to my words of wisdom” voice, before going into a play-by-play of how brilliantly it performs in stop and go traffic.
It does.
“Every time we parked somewhere, someone came over and admired the car,” I heard him tell our daughter, in a proud, almost choked-up voice. “At least a dozen people compared it to the Jaguar.”
They did.
The K900 is gorgeous. We took our friends to dinner in it and they were so comfortable reclining – yes, reclining! – in the cushy back seat (which, by the way, also features heated seats and radio controls) that they asked us if we would consider taking a road trip to Vegas rather than taking them home.
And we just may have said yes.
In fact, we may, right now, be making it our mission to drive around the country and change the way people think of luxury. Anyone who thinks they need a brand name like Mercedes or BMW or Porsche – well, let them spend the extra money. The real trendsetters, the ones who know that true luxury lies in the car itself rather than the icon on the front, back or top of it, will be driving the K900.
That’s what we’ll be doing. I’m just not telling you where.
That’s one sexy car! Vroom, vroom!
Maybe you can steer it out east, pick me up, and take me back to San Diego. Yeah, that’s a great idea.
