As you know, I love to read. Duh. I also love scents. As I admitted in 25 Random Things About Me, “Smell good, and I’ll follow you anywhere.” My own signature scent is Pure Grace by Philosophy, but, really, there’s nothing I like better than the smell of a new book. In fact, it’s one reason I still don’t have an e-Reader.
So, when I received Paper Passion in the mail the other day, it literally took my breath away. Created by boutique perfumer Geza Schoen and esteemed publisher/printer Gerhard Steidl in collaboration with Wallpaper* magazine, Paper Passion is described as “Perfume for Booklovers.”
The scent is lovely and comforting – taking a whiff, I felt very much at home – but the packaging blew me away. Just look at it! The gorgeous little hardcover book opens up to short essays and poems by Karl Lagerfeld, Nobel Laureate Gunter Grass, Geza Schoen and Tony Chambers (editor of Wallpaper*), all paying tribute to the scent of paper. And then, you turn the last white page of text and, be still my heart, there are maybe a couple of hundred glorious red pages with a hidden cut-out compartment housing the bottle. I’m in love.
If you’re looking for a special gift for a book lover, trust me, this is it. It is a stunning and sensuous tribute to paper, and you just may want to dab a drop or two on the pulse points of your Kindle.
