After laughing over Woof, Buick’s new ad campaign which aired during the Westminster Dog Show last week, I realized just how fitting it is that I’m part of the Experience Buick team this year.
Take a look at this adorable 30 second commercial:
As you know, I am totally a dog lover. I have been known to let strange dogs use my face for licking, I tear up whenever I see a guide dog and I have thrown myself at K-9 police dogs, only to be told to “please step back.”
We have been so lucky to have had two amazing dogs of our own and, like the cars in the commercial, they were not what you might have expected of their breeds.

Jessie, our beloved Newfoundland, was what our vet affectionately called “not typical.” Newfies are famous for being water rescue dogs but Jessie hated the pool and would bark at us before we went in, warning us that there was no way she was coming in if we needed help. In fact, when she was old and blind, she fell in and I had to jump in and rescue her.

Sophie, my canine soulmate, was a Chow Chow with a temperament so sweet, our vet said it was a shame we weren’t breeding her. When I walked her past intimidating guys, they would step back as I held her on a tight lead to reinforce their belief that she was dangerous. In my head, I just laughed, and I’m convinced Sophie did, too.
So, I’ve loved the whole idea of Buick’s Hmm campaign because it shows how we all get stuck in our preconceived notions.
Isn’t this so true? Would you have ever guessed that this sporty Cascada convertible is a Buick? (Note: that’s not me in the car. Yet.)

And I especially love that they’ve taken that campaign a step further with Woof, because it reminds me of all the ways our dogs were not what people expected them to be. And, because of their looks, a shocking number of people asked if Jessie was a bear and if Sophie was a lion. Really?
If the two of them were here now, I would so have them “star” in a Buick video.
I hope, if you have a furry family member, you’ll do that for me. Head over to www.buick.com/woof and use your smartphone to upload a video of your dog giving his or her best bark. Buick will create a video for you and send you the link so you can share it with the world.
If you make a video, please come back and share the link in the comments below so I can see it, too.
By the end of this year, we may end up with a new car and a new dog. And our choices — Buick? St. Bernard? — may surprise even us.
My dog is such a spaz, he could never, ever be in an ad LOL. I love this campaign, though 🙂
My dog would never do it on cue. But when the cameras are off then the action happens.
Buick has come a long way and is catching up fast with their trend of sporty and sophistication. Kudos to them for move ahead of the flow. AND, brilliant move to incorporate pooches in their ad. Brilliant! Not only does it deliver the message loud and clear, but it’s adorable and taps into America’s love of animals.
It is brilliant. Everyone loves dogs, right?
We have always wanted a Buick… ha! And I love, love, love the commercial. Thanks for sharing
You totally need a St. Bernard!!! And I LOVE that convertible 🙂
I especially loved your story about your Newfie. I have an old black lab just like that. We rescue dogs and have many — right now, I am house/dog sitting for my daughter – she has 6. We just got two new rescues that I had to leave at home to come dog sit here. I also enjoyed your comment that you allow strange dogs use your face to lick — LOVE IT.
My dogs would tear up the interior…you should see what they’ve done to mine.
Awesome, post and I love the car.
So cute! I can’t even put into words how much I love this campaign. The Buick is pretty cute, too. 🙂 I would love to get Duncan in the video, but he never barks!
Your dogs are adorable and the commercial was hysterical!
I wish I could train my dog to be in a car dog. This ad is too cute.
It is a brilliant campaign. I love how they included dogs in it
I can’t wait to see what car and what dog you end up with!! This is a cute article and ad.
I can’t wait to get home and record Bubs!! He is such a ham you know. You may borrow him anytime Lois :)!
These are definitely not what I think of when I hear Buick. My dad had the traditional Buicks for years and was always trying to get me to buy one. Now THESE, I would consider!
Those pups are so darn cute! My dog would love to ride in one of these!
What a great idea. Who doesn’t love dogs? Great job Buick!
I think it’s an excellent idea- SO many dog lovers out there 🙂
Haha, Chinook says only if she can drive it! Oh and make that a convertible. Wait what’s that, Chinook? You say it needs to be blue?
Give a dog a muffin, Lois, and she will want the jam too…
That ad is really cute. It’s so cool that you can use your own dog’s bark for a personal Buick video!
What a great campaign. I love seeing animals in commercials they are always so cute and always steal the spotlight.
What a beautiful dog. This is really a great campaign, animals always looks great in commercials. I don’t know why but they bring a sense of likeability for me.
Buicks now are a far cry from the “grandma” cars they used to be. They look really nice!
And this commercial was a hoot. “MAILMAN!” hahaha. Love it!
Those commercials show Buick’s great taste in stars! My hub always calls me to the TV to see them.
Ohmigoodness, those commercials are just the best. I’m loving all of those puppies but the eyes of that black dog? I can’t deal. So cute!
My dog only performs when she has an audience and never when the camera is on. I have tried to get her to do yoga on camera for a while.
Your dogs are so cute! Love the Buick commercial too. Must say, that convertible is one sexy car.
I love those Buick commercials! I didn’t see the dog one so thanks for that it was adorable! I used to own a Buick back in the day and yes they have changed. Beautiful cars indeed! I love your pooches too!
My dogs only bark when I’m asleep but I am going to ask my daughter to do it with my granddog because he is such a showoff.
You will look great in that convertible, it is adorable!
I want to see your granddog in a video, Doreen!
I’ve seen a lot of dogs in commercials lately. Why not, they are man’s best friend.
With the way things are going for me right now, I will probably end up with a new car soon too! Who knows?! Maybe it will be a Buick!
Hilarious! I’m a dog lover, so this commercial really hit home for me. So adorable. I love the new Buicks!
My dog is pretty lazy, only treats will do the trick; though the new buicks look really nice!
I’m loving the commercials and I especially love commercials when it includes dogs. We recently lost our dog and we’re looking forward to getting a new one ourselves.
aw I finally got to see the commercial everyone’s buzzing about. 🙂 Thanks for posting it on the blog. Buick’s are looking sharp sharp sharp these days!
What an adorable campaign. I’m team cat all the way but my daughter is such a dog lover. I will show her the video tomorrow–she’ll adore it.
Such a smart advertising campaign from Buick…the preconceived notions sometimes surprise everyone! lol We have a 4 year old St Bernard and at 200lbs with a throaty “bark” he looks and sounds much scarier than he is. My brother’s 15lb Pug is the boss of him when he comes to visit. 🙂
Oh, I think we want a St. Bernard next! I would love to see a picture of him. You should make the video!
I love the dog addition to the commercials. My dog would never sit still long enough.
Aw, that Newf! We had one when I was a kid. Her name was Rosie, and she could clear a table just by wagging her tail!
Getting Lily to bark requires a treat or two and did a great job! Loved the video Buick made! Here’s the link to hers. http://youtu.be/phoCSQfZDig
OMG I LOVED THAT! Yay, Lily! Thanks so much for sharing her acting debut!
What an adorable commercial! I was at the Buick press conference in Detroit this year where they revealed the new Cascada concept car and Avenir. They were gorgeous!
How did I not see you there?! I agree – the cars are gorgeous!
That is a great campaign. The Buick commercials have been getting my attention. I think they are great
I just saw a subaru commercial with dogs too. Everyone loves them, so it makes sense.
Buicks really are looking good. Very sporty.
I have to admit that some of their models are really quite nice. Very cute commercial! I’m a dog lover too!
I love the Dog Commercial! Too Cute!! Especially the 91 years of chasing – my hubby would say something like that if he was a dog! LOL
I love these commercials! So funny. And the cars are gorg!
I’ve noticed more Brands are starting to use animals for their Marketing Campaigns. I think its because dogs are loyal and lovable so that can be likened to a buick
What a cute commercial!! Buick is stepping up!
We love those commercials. I hope they do more!
My dog would be too scared to be in an ad. She’s afraid of most things, but slowly learning to be a teensy bit more sociable 😛
I am loving all the pet commercials. This one is so sweet! Love it.
This looks like a great campaign. I love the dog with the car, so cute.
I love these commercials. We always make sure we watch them when they’re on.
What cute car commercials are out there now. I love the Buick ads. The dogs are adorable.
I say get the new car to drive your new dog around LOL
Your dogs were so adorable – they must have been bigger than you! Love them, and the car is adorable, too. When I turn 60 I want a red convertible!
I think this is s super fun campaign and smart on Buick’s part – who doesn’t love dogs?!!
I love clever commercials and I hadn’t seen this one yet. What a pleasure.
