the passport protector

Passport protector

Like most people, the one thing I obsess about on every trip is my passport.

So I was horrified and inspired by Patrick Dichter’s story. You can – and should – read it here, and see how he’s turned every traveler’s nightmare into an amazing product that I can’t wait to use myself.Β

Basically, a gate agent wouldn’t let him get on a plane to Rome because his passport showed signs of β€œwear and tear.” This cost him time, money and a lot of aggravation and stress.

To make sure something like that never happens to anyone else, he created the Passport Protector, a hardcore but lightweight case that lives up to its name.

Patrick has almost reached his Indiegogo fundraising campaign goal, and you can help out by donating here.

What I love about this, besides the product itself, is that a percentage of sales will go toward study abroad scholarships so more people can get the opportunity to travel.

With just a few days left, I hope you’ll get involved and share this with anyone passionate about travel. Then start planning your next trip!

  1. Thanks for the reminder that I, too, need to renew my passport. My daughter leaves in a few months for a year in Amsterdam, and something like this would give mama a little more peace of mind. Also, I love supporting Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns!

  2. Always a great idea to carry extra protection.

Which reminds me: when my brother was in Rome last year, his girlfriend was almost attacked by a group of men. My brother is a bit crazy when he is angry (which is almost never) and at 6′ 3″ his height can usually scare the dickens out of someone. And it did. Lucky the men didn’t pull a knife. My point is if his girlfriend got robbed, what protection is there? You can never be too careful while traveling.

  3. I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t have a passport. Haven’t needed one… but will soon. And when I get it, I will also get this Passport Protector. Seems a fabulous idea. Best wishes to the creators for huge success with it.

  4. Oh, I sooo need one of these Lois! I too am always worried about my passport — we keep them in our dive books…not that bright but they are always with us! This will help us keep them safe and dry, and give back in the process! Got to love that!

  5. This looks like a much needed product for those who travel often! My husband is always worried that he will have similar issues with his passport too!

  6. This happened to my son Chris when we went to London a few years ago. Unbeknownst to me, he had washed his passport in the pocket of his jeans and it really was a mess. We were fortunate that the gate agent let him in to London, but were told he couldn’t get out without a new passport. So my husband and son spent 2 days of a weeklong trip at the American Embassy trying to get his passport replaced. I’ll be first in line to buy this for my entire family!

  7. Great idea, my husband is always laughing at me because I’m obsessed with our passports every time we leave the country but the idea of something happens are we get stuck on a different country just freaks me out

  8. This does seem like an amazing product! I know that I was obsessing over keeping my smartphone and license together while in the states…never mind a passport abroad.

  9. When you’re traveling, you really get way too much going on. So I think this is absolutely perfect and a good way to help keep the most important thing you will have traveling safe!
