the kia soul makes it easy to be green

Kia Soul side

Last time I test drove the Kia Soul, I smiled the whole week. I mean, how can you not be happy looking at that cute little car?

I have to admit I hoped I would get a different color this time but, alas, I was destined for the green. Although Kia calls it “Alien,” it did feel very comfy and familiar as soon as I got behind the wheel again.

And I do get the significance of the color because the Soul is “green” in so many ways, like:

Kia Soul golf clubs

. Green represents golf

Golfer Michelle Wie is the spokesperson for the Kia Soul, and we’ve been lucky enough to have been invited to the Kia Classic for the past few years. Thinking about this inspired Michael to go out and play at Torrey Pines for the first time in a while and, even though the Soul is compact, there is a surprising amount of room in the cargo.

. Green represents eco-friendly

For the ultimate in eco-friendly, there’s the electric Soul EV. I’d love to test that one but, meanwhile, the standard Soul features an Eco Mode and there’s an Idle Stop and Go option which turns off the engine when the car is idling in order to save fuel. It also takes up very little room and gets a respectable gas mileage.

. Green represents money

Starting at a base MSRP of $15,190, the Soul is a great value. It’s earned top safety marks and, of course, it’s backed by the great 10 year/100,00 mile Kia warranty.

The Soul also gets the green light from me for its easy navigation and audio system, and the way everything fits so nicely and efficiently in the amazingly roomy-feeling interior. And, although this may not be earth-shattering in the scheme of things,  I really love the fact that you can turn off a Kia and your music stays on until you open the door. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat in my car, listening to the end of a song. Okay, I’m shallow.

And there’s one other feature I do have to mention. When you drive a Soul, a lot of heads turn your way. People stare at your rear and turn to their friends to discuss.

I like to think they’re green with envy.

  1. Hi Lois!! I remember when you reviewed the Soul last year and again it looks like a great car. Congratulations on being able to test drive them and share the review with everyone. I personally would like to get my hands on one of the EV version too. ~Kathy

    1. Kathy, if I get one to drive, I’ll come pick you up for a spin – although that would be quite a road trip!

  2. I love this little car. I was surprised when I rented one of these that it was so comfortable and roomy. Although, if you’re going through the Rockies, expect it to putt putt putt. I do like the “Alien” color, though…kinda cool.

  3. I giggled when I read the name Alien. What a name for the color green! Other than green I think I would liked to have a black or navy blue or dark purple color car. Being able to test drive and review a car – how cool is that. It looks like it has a lot of room and great features. It also looks like you had a blast reviewing this car.

  4. It’s really a cute car, and I love the color. If only it was a little bigger … I have to fit three car seats. Maybe when the kids get older.

  5. This is such a cute little car especially if you have a small family. there’s no way my family to fit in there but it’s such a cute little car

  6. What a cute little car for someone with a small family! With all of us and our ‘stuff’ there is no way we would fit

  7. We are looking for a newer car right now. We might have to check the Kia options. Seriously, we want a new car but, at a good price that meets all the things you mentioned (but, not with sticker shock!). Thanks for the review.

  8. This would have been a great fit during my college days! Sadly, I could never pack up all my kids and stuff in it now. 🙁

  9. It looks like a lovely ride. I wish I had a vehicle, if so I’d love this color. I’ve heard so many great things about kias they are great!

  10. I love cars with the stop and go feature. Great option. What a great price for a car too! Looks very practical and economical. Would be a great first car for a new driver!

  11. Great car…and great company! We looked at a few of these a few months ago, still in the car buying process. They offer alot of space which is what I would need. We will be car buying for the older kids too in a few years and Kias are on the top of the list.

  12. I’ve seen a few of these on the road and they definitely draw my attention. That’s a very unique color that you got to drive!
