selvera: a personal approach to losing weight

Rose, before and after

I’m always interested in hearing about other women’s weight loss struggles and successes, and recently heard about a program called Selvera.

I spoke to Registered Dietitian Amanda Foti, who told me more about Selvera’s innovative approach. What makes it particularly appealing is that you get your own personal registered dietitian who helps coach you via phone, video conferencing and email, offering you options for meals and snacks that will keep you healthy and satisfied.

You also get the benefits of cool tracking technology to follow your progress in the areas of weight, percentage of fat mass, activity and sleep.

“As a dietitian, it’s nice to finally see an effective solution to a truly frustrating challenge,” said Amanda. “It works because we have the luxury of offering our program to all clients in any location and with any schedule, from busy stay at home parents to busy business travelers.”

I asked Amanda if I could learn more from one of her clients and she connected me with 42-year-old Rose, above, who has been on the Selvera journey for 5 months and has lost almost 30 lbs! Here’s what she had to say about her experience:

Tell us a little about yourself and your weight loss journey.

I’ve been married for 15 years and have two children, 13 and 9. I work full time, and spend my weekends with my kids. When they’re not playing sports or having play dates with their friends, we just enjoy relaxing at home. I’ve been battling my weight my whole life. I’ve tried every diet and never had much success until I was introduced to Selvera.

What makes Selvera different from other weight loss programs you’ve tried?

Selvera weight loss program is really one of a kind. I’ve never heard of any other weight loss program that gives you a state of the art scale and pedometer, not to mention having a nutritionist on call to answer all my questions.

What has Selvera taught you that has helped you the most?

Selvera has taught me that it’s not a diet; it’s a way of life. I can still go out to dinner and enjoy holidays and special events by just making smarter, healthy choices.

My weakness is dessert, and I can’t pass up a good donut. What’s your weakness and how has Selvera helped you deal with it?

My weakness is dessert, too! I’d much rather eat that than the meal! Selvera taught me that it’s okay to have whatever I want in moderation. That’s what I love about Selvera.

What’s been the biggest surprise about Selvera?

I was speaking to my nutritionist and she told me to include fat in my diet. My whole life, I’ve been on every kind of diet, and I always thought everything had to be fat-free. Selvera has taught me that’s not true!

What role does your nutritionist play in your success?

One of the things I love most about Selvera is having a personal nutritionist. I know that if I’m ever having a bad week or just have a question, my nutritionist is just a phone call away. She always has something positive to say, and is a pleasure to speak to.

Congratulations on your weight loss! You look amazing! How has this changed your life, and the way you feel?

I feel great, and look forward to living the Selvera way for the rest of my life!

  1. This sounds like a great concept. Having a nutritionist who can act as your coach and sounding board must help a lot. I would definitely consider doing this because nothing I’ve tried on my own is working.

  2. I have a referral to a dietician, a fit bit, and a good scale. I don’t diet, but I can do better, and this inspires me to put a coherent plan together. SELVERA sounds like a really good approach.

  3. I’ll start out by saying I liked Roz before I read her comment where she stated that if she EVER has to lose weight…..agh! Lucky Roz. I’ve never said THOSE WORDS!

This sounds like a great program and very innovative. Thanks for telling me about it, Lois.

  4. I have terrible eating habits need to correct them ans start actually eating healthy or find a nice program.

  5. Wow, that is really cool. I have always wandered what a dietitian would say about my eating habits. Will have to check it out. Thanks so much
