Can you guess from this picture which hotel we stayed at in Los Angeles last weekend?
Just one glance at those signature Kimpton robes and I always feel right at home.
What makes Kimptons so special — well, one of the many things that makes them so special — is that each hotel somehow manages to feel intimate and local by staying true to the specific city in which it’s located while still maintaining the high standards of the largest chain of boutique hotels in the country.
The Palomar in LA does that with beautiful, contemporary design — no one mixes patterns, colors and eclectic pieces of furniture together better than they do — and this stunning view of the city from our windows.
In fact, you could even enjoy the scenery from the bathroom, which has an ingenious opening (or closing) to let in the light and the view while soaking in the massive tub. Yes, those are jets. No, you will never want to get out of the tub.
And just look at the size of this bathroom.
I think it’s larger than our first apartment. (Sorry, for the dark picture but I was unsuccessfully attempting to capture the sophisticated atmosphere.)
Speaking of larger, Kimpton never skimps on toiletries.
These were big enough for my husband, my daughter and me to all use — and then take home.
One of my favorite Kimpton features is the mini-bar because, as a Kimpton Karma member (and, trust me, if you like benefits, you should join right now), you get a $10 raid-the-minibar card, which we love. Granted, it doesn’t get you all that much in LA, but my husband did gobble down a nice-sized chocolate bar.
He then pulled out the yoga mat in an attempt to burn off those calories. This is another standard Kimpton feature, and it made me laugh.
We spent the afternoon wandering around LA and when we returned to our room, look what we found:
We were the guests of the day! I Tweeted Kimpton to thank them and we had a little Twitter lovefest.
After happy hour in the lobby — free wine and delicious hot apple cider! — we had dinner in the hotel at Blvd 16, which included the best burger I have ever eaten and which I will have to write about separately!
We then explored the hotel to walk off some of the calories, and we checked out the pretty pool area.
The temperature was in the 60’s so it was too cold to actually swim. I know. We are totally weather wimps out here.
I do have my eye on these lounge chairs for my backyard, though.
But instead of getting too comfy there, we headed back to our even comfier room.
After one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a long time, we debated whether we really wanted to leave the room to go see more of LA.
I’m guessing the Eagles had the Palomar in mind when they wrote Hotel California: “You can check out any time you want but you can never leave.”
Well, of course, you can but why in the world would you ever want to?

That looks like the most comfy hotel.
I will look into it for my book tour, I am excited to be visiting LA in the fall.
60 degrees made me laugh it is snowy and in the 20’s in Philly. I picked a great week to stay in to recover from surgery.

I played the ‘priceline wheel of fortune’ and was booked in the Klimpton Hotel Monaco in Chicago – what a wonderful surprise! The room was smaller than yours in LA – but everything was just as luxurious and the service was grand. Will absolutely stay with them again.
