You would think if we didn’t get a minivan when our kids were little, we certainly wouldn’t be interested in getting one now.
But you’d be wrong.
After driving the Kia Sedona SXL for a week, we’re convinced it’s kind of perfect for this time in our lives.
I mean, how much room did the kids really need when they were younger?
Now is when they need to spread out and have their own space.
And if there’s one thing this car has, it’s space. Lots and lots of space. In fact, those middle seats fold down flat. Did you hear me? Flat! Kia’s not kidding when they call this First-Class Lounge Seating. (Oh, airlines, take note: if Kia can put these reclining beauties in a value-priced vehicle, you can put them in economy).
What’s especially great about getting the Sedona when your kids are grown is that they can do the driving while you lie down and take a nap. Or take in the view through the sunroof.
Even my mom couldn’t help smiling at the fact that she could put her feet up!
Okay, I know I’m obsessed with those seats so let me show you some of the other great features of this car — which, by the way, Kia calls a multi-purpose vehicle because it is way too luxurious to be considered a typical minivan.
For example, check out this rear camera. Look how many views of the car it shows you! Plus, as someone who likes to back into a parking spot, I can just follow those lines — almost like playing a video game — and it’s easier than ever.
And what about the double glove compartment? This picture doesn’t do it justice but there’s so much room, you can stock up on all those things you’re supposed to keep in your car but don’t usually have room for.
And, because my review wouldn’t be complete without a review of the cup holders, well, take a look at this. Not only are there two cup holders but there’s also a giant doggy bag holder! I’m not sure that’s its official name but it did hold our doggy bag from P.F. Chang’s.
Oh, I guess I should mention that the Sedona drives smoothly, offers a nice, quiet ride so you can actually hear the great sound system, and has my favorite blind spot detectors on the side mirrors.
All in all, this is an awesome car which dispels every misconception about minivans. As someone trying to do the same thing for aging, I only hope I can look as good on the outside as it does.

I *need* a van so bad. Mine broke down and I had to trade it in for a car.. Having a wheelchair and 3 kids makes it very uncomfortable. I need the space in a van back.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I am not a mini van kind of mom, but I do hear great things about Kias. I am in the market for a new car and would love to check out a kia.
Ruth Curran says
Perfect vehicle to go star gazing–seats fully reclined, staring through the sunroof. I love backup cameras but I am afraid that mine really does not help me park any straighter!
Krystal says
That’s a really nice minivan. I LOVE that backup assist. You really need something like that with a big vehicle.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
Backup assist is definitely a really helpful feature.

I got my first mini van last year and I love it! I swore I would never drive a van but now I can’t ever see myself NOT in one!

My husband would flip for this van. He loves trying out new cars.

My in-laws had this van for about ten years before they got a new one. I think 10 yrs out of a Kia is pretty good. We have a Toyota Sienna and I love it. I couldn’t be without a Mini Van now that I have one.
Jessica Beal Harlow says
As a mini van Mom, I agree…they have come a long way! It’s not just the stereotypcial cheetos-ridden mobile full of toys, sippy cups, and dirty windows. I love how much room the Kia Sedona has!
aimee fauci says
You had me at the seats. How awesome you can practically recline!
Annie {Stowed Stuff} says
It looks like a good ride! I’ve never been in a Kia – ever! We do love our minivan though!

My husband has been pushing me to get a minivan for a few years now. I am due for a new car this summer, and I may just have to go test drive this one out. It looks luxurious!
maria @ closetotohome says
It does look like there are a lot of features on there that would be desirable. Love the kids sleeping in the back
Chrystal @ YUM eating says
We are a small family so no real need for a mini van. I often tell hubs that I want one though so we can travel better with the dogs and when we want to bring people with us. This one is great. I love Kia cars and their affordability.
Diane Nassy says
Nice ride! We had a minivan when I was growing up, but I don’t think I could ever buy one.
Jeanine says
What a gorgeous vehicle! This is the type I always thought I would have. Of course neither of us drive, and this wouldn’t fit our huge family. But it looks like a lovely ride.
Pam says
Wow that is spacious! I love my care, but sometimes I do wish it had a bit more room in the back seat. My son’s almost hits the roof!
Amber NElson says
That looks really nice and cozy. I would take that on a road trip.
Heather says
Looks like a very fancy mini van!

I think the Kia Sedona looks nice. I’d like to test drive one in the snow and see how it handles.
Maureen @ Wisconsin Mommy says
I totally agree about needing more room as they get older. We used to be able to fit three kids in the backseat of my car. Now two feels cramped!!
Kristin says
My sister is thinking about buying this one soon!

Oh nice….it looks really roomy.
