back by popular demand: boxes of books!

books on counter

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I did the last Boxes of Books promotion! Sorry! No wonder my house looks like it’s been turned into a library! (Note: That photo is from last time and doesn’t even begin to show how many books I actually am ready to send you.)

Many of you have been sending me gentle reminders to get moving with this so here you go, my fellow book lovers.

All you have to do to get a big fat box filled with great winter night reading is follow these steps:

1. Write a check for at least $20 per box ($12.65 goes to the shipping for a medium flat rate box from the United States Post Office, and the rest will go to a charity to be determined) and make it out to Lois Alter Mark. Readers have always been extremely generous, and contributions have been made to non-profits that support breast cancer research, domestic violence prevention and children in need.

2. Enclose a piece of paper with your name, mailing address and email address. Be sure to tell me which of these genres you prefer (mention as many as you’d like): fiction, literary fiction, historical fiction, chick lit, mystery/thriller, cookbooks, self-improvement, biography, crafts, memoir, non-fiction, anything I’ve forgotten. I can’t promise but I always try and often succeed in fulfilling these requests.

3. Put the check and the paper in an envelope addressed to Lois Alter Mark, Midlife at the Oasis, 3525 Del Mar Heights Road #582, San Diego, CA 92130.

Your box will include at least $100 worth of books plus I try to throw in a DVD or whatever other goodies I may have on hand, thanks to my generous publicist friends.

Don’t wait! These boxes go really fast, and it’s so much fun to get one of them in your mailbox. You can also order them for your friends, sisters, daughters, moms, whoever. I can’t tell you how much it makes me smile when you do this. Just remember to include their names and addresses as well, and let me know if there’s anything specific they like. You can include a note for me to stick in their box or I can write one myself. I love love love when you share these with the women in your lives. They make great holiday treats.

Everyone is always happy with their boxes — thank you for the nice emails and Facebook posts! — and that makes me especially happy.

Can’t wait to get your orders!

  1. I send for your box of books every time you make the offer and have never been disappointed. My check is in the mail and I can’t wait to see what goodies I receive. You are very generous – thank you, Lois for all you do.

    • Lois Alter Mark says:

Thank you so much! I so appreciate you being part of this community, and hope you love your new box of books! xo

  2. This has always been the BEST idea of passing beloved books along, Lois. It’s really sheer genius.

Since we are planning to move I have enough books for now (wait till Gary sees what’s under the bed!) so I’m not going to take part. But once we move, look out Lois! Great job, my friend.

  3. Oh wow I would totally be in for this if I lived over there. What an awesome idea – I adore books as well. x

  4. omg i hope hubby brought a check with him because I didn’t and we aren’t home till 11/5. I am IN. And hubby says he has a checkbook. I do have stamps. Ok, I’m in like Flynn!

  5. Robin (Masshole Mommy) says:

That is a really neat idea. I don’t read, but my hubby loves it.

  6. Oh wow, that is such a great idea. I may just do this!

  7. I’m in! The check will be in Monday’s mail. I will share whatever science fiction you send with my sister in law.. I wish my 87 year old mother in law was a reader – she’s in rehab right now and will be there a while longer – but she isn’t – not that much, anyway.

  8. This is such a cool idea! I would totally do it if you had kids books.

  9. Love the boxes of books! I’ll put my check in the post tomorrow!!

  10. This is a great way to get rid of your books, share them with others and give to a worthy cause. Nice!

  11. What a great idea and I love that you contribute to charities. A box of books is one of the best packages to receive in the mail. Hours and hours of fun reading.

  12. This is such a fun way to get some books. I love anything that promotes literacy.

  13. You are terrific for doing this again! I can not get anymore books or I would be all over this.

  14. Lois, I am so impressed with this idea. FAbulous! No books for me – overflowing myself, here – but just wanted to let you know I think you’re brilliant 🙂

  15. Lynda @MommyPowers aka: Sandy Gram says:

    May I still sign up?!

    • Lois Alter Mark says:

Absolutely! I won’t start sending out boxes until sometime next week. So happy you want to participate, thanks!

  16. I got my box yesterday – thank you so very much! A Cokie Roberts book I wasn’t even aware of…my holiday reading!
