turning the clock back

clock 2 a.m.

I know a lot of people are not happy about turning the clock back tonight and, although I moan and groan along with them so they donā€™t feel weird, secretly I rejoice.

I donā€™t mind feeling weird.

Donā€™t get me wrong. Iā€™m all about long, sunny days ā€“ I do live in San Diego, after all. But thereā€™s something about long, dark evenings, hunkering down with a blanket, a book and a cup of tea, that just makes me happy.

And that extra hour! Oh, I love that extra hour!

Iā€™ve been thinking about all the things I can do in that time. Like:

* Organize that room. The one that was supposed to be my office when we moved here 16 years ago. The one thatā€™s supposed to replace this.

kitchen office

* Clean out my books. Itā€™s time for me to do another Box of Books promotion because books have taken over the house. Itā€™s like the literary equivalent of Little Shop of Horrors. Without the catchy soundtrack.

* Start ordering holiday gifts. Ha ha ha ha! Before Thanksgiving!? That is never going to happen but it was totally fun to pretend for a minute.

* Hmmm ā€¦ Figure out what weā€™re actually doing for Thanksgiving. Whoā€™s coming in when? Are we going to my parentsā€™ house? Are they coming here? Are we going out? OMG what are we doing??

* Write another blog post for NaBloPoMo. It would be good to get ahead since Iā€™m committed to writing 30 posts in 30 days, and may need to be committed at the end of the month. But I do my best work after a little procrastination so Iā€™ll wait.

Okay, seriously, Iā€™m exhausted now, just thinking about all of this.

Itā€™s a good thing weā€™re turning the clocks back tonight because, obviously, I can use an extra hour of sleep.

  1. I wish we didn’t do this…..I totally forget and end up calling some of my friends at the wrong time! Can’t believe you are writing 30 blogs in one month! WOW…you go girl! I shall look forward to reading them.

  2. I LOVE the extra hour for the same reason you do–it’s like a bonus hour of productivity. So, come tomorrow morning, when I am up at my usual time, which will be an hour early by clock time, I will be thinking of you, writing away, or perhaps ordering gifts, or just sipping that cup of coffee, and I will smile knowing that I am in good company. šŸ™‚

  3. Sorry, kiddo. But when you live on the East Coast you don’t rejoice. You mourn, get a bit depressed and sigh that evenings will begin at 4:30, and the cold, dark wintry nights are upon us.

I guess I just talked myself into moving to San Diego again, eh?

Good thing I’m going to a Broadway play tomorrow to make myself feel better! šŸ™‚

  4. I am so glad you wrote this post because I am not sure anyone in this house would have known that it was this weekend :)! And thank you for the reminder to use my hour wisely!

  5. I’m going to be singing Little Shop of Horrors in my sleep now. Love that movie. I’m with you on the extra hour thing. I’m sort of glad to spring forward AND fall back. We might all need to be committed after writing a post every single day this month.

  6. I forgot about it and my Mac said 8am, what?! Lol I’ll have to figure out what to do with my extra hour.

  7. Well we already had thanksgiving here but it was low key. It’s lovely when you have everyone over and make it a big family event sometimes also. I am looking forward to a short winter. It’s not my favourite season. An extra hour would be nice every week. LOL.
