I know a lot of people are not happy about turning the clock back tonight and, although I moan and groan along with them so they don’t feel weird, secretly I rejoice.
I don’t mind feeling weird.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all about long, sunny days – I do live in San Diego, after all. But there’s something about long, dark evenings, hunkering down with a blanket, a book and a cup of tea, that just makes me happy.
And that extra hour! Oh, I love that extra hour!
I’ve been thinking about all the things I can do in that time. Like:
* Organize that room. The one that was supposed to be my office when we moved here 16 years ago. The one that’s supposed to replace this.
* Clean out my books. It’s time for me to do another Box of Books promotion because books have taken over the house. It’s like the literary equivalent of Little Shop of Horrors. Without the catchy soundtrack.
* Start ordering holiday gifts. Ha ha ha ha! Before Thanksgiving!? That is never going to happen but it was totally fun to pretend for a minute.
* Hmmm … Figure out what we’re actually doing for Thanksgiving. Who’s coming in when? Are we going to my parents’ house? Are they coming here? Are we going out? OMG what are we doing??
* Write another blog post for NaBloPoMo. It would be good to get ahead since I’m committed to writing 30 posts in 30 days, and may need to be committed at the end of the month. But I do my best work after a little procrastination so I’ll wait.
Okay, seriously, I’m exhausted now, just thinking about all of this.
It’s a good thing we’re turning the clocks back tonight because, obviously, I can use an extra hour of sleep.

LOL! I love when we gain the hour, it’s losing it in the Spring that kills me 🙂
Ellen Dolgen says
I wish we didn’t do this…..I totally forget and end up calling some of my friends at the wrong time! Can’t believe you are writing 30 blogs in one month! WOW…you go girl! I shall look forward to reading them.

I’m pretty happy about the time change, too. For one thing, it’ll put my daughter in Arizona (the wacky state that doesn’t change time) in the same time zone as me. Hooray!
Nancy Hill (@Nerthus) says
I grew up in a state that did not observe DLST, and now I live in one that does not. But that is okay because Arizona has enough daylight, the only thing we are short of is Democrats.
Amanda says
I’ve never thought about using the extra hour that we get! Thanks for making me think more positive!
Elin Stebbins Waldal says
Oh we are cut from the same cloth on this one. Love the extra hour. I pretend I will use it for sleep. Dare to dream…and yes, pun intended.
Carpool Goddess says
I do my best work after a little procrastination too! Btw, your bookshelves look like mine 🙂
Mary Lanzavecchia says
I LOVE the extra hour for the same reason you do–it’s like a bonus hour of productivity. So, come tomorrow morning, when I am up at my usual time, which will be an hour early by clock time, I will be thinking of you, writing away, or perhaps ordering gifts, or just sipping that cup of coffee, and I will smile knowing that I am in good company. 🙂
Fan R @TeddyOutReady says
Extra hour of sleep sounds the most inviting. My home office looks much worse than yours, so now trying to decide sleep or cleaning.
Roz Warren says
I always sleep through that extra hour.
If it were up to me, I’d get rid of DST. But — it ISNT up to me.
Cathy Chester says
Sorry, kiddo. But when you live on the East Coast you don’t rejoice. You mourn, get a bit depressed and sigh that evenings will begin at 4:30, and the cold, dark wintry nights are upon us.
I guess I just talked myself into moving to San Diego again, eh?
Good thing I’m going to a Broadway play tomorrow to make myself feel better! 🙂
kim tackett says
I love the extra hour. And I use it for a guilt-free nap. Every year. Like clockwork (heh).
jamie@southmainmuse says
Wouldn’t it be fun if we got another 24 hours? Who am I kidding? I’d waste it. And you live in San Diego. I’m green.
Ruth Curran says
I am so glad you wrote this post because I am not sure anyone in this house would have known that it was this weekend :)! And thank you for the reminder to use my hour wisely!
Carol Cassara says
Thank God you reminded me! LOL
Angela Weight says
I’m going to be singing Little Shop of Horrors in my sleep now. Love that movie. I’m with you on the extra hour thing. I’m sort of glad to spring forward AND fall back. We might all need to be committed after writing a post every single day this month.
Chrissy Mazzocchi says
I forgot about it and my Mac said 8am, what?! Lol I’ll have to figure out what to do with my extra hour.
Lois Alter Mark says
Go back to sleep!
Krystal's Kitsch says
I’m trying to organize my office today. These are great ideas for falling back.
Tough Cookie Mommy says
I actually don’t really mind having to turn the clock back. The only thing that I don’t really like is knowing that it will get dark quickly every afternoon.
Lois Alter Mark says
I know. Too bad we can’t keep both the extra hour and the late sun!
Elaine Ambrose says
This is the only time we can actually turn back time! Good luck with the Thanksgiving plans…
Melissa Vera says
I love it when I gain an extra hour of sleep but hate losing that extra hour of daytime.
paula schuck says
Well we already had thanksgiving here but it was low key. It’s lovely when you have everyone over and make it a big family event sometimes also. I am looking forward to a short winter. It’s not my favourite season. An extra hour would be nice every week. LOL.
Chrystal @ YUM eating says
I’m weird I guess. The time change never really bothered me.
becca says
I have to say the time change never bothers me. I guess I’m weird that way. also love when books take over my shelf.
