cheese, please! why i’m a #kingdomcheeselover

Ben & Jerry's cow

Cheese, cows, England, the countryside, farm to table, travel, organic food, British accents, cheese.

Okay, you can’t really sing this list but these are a few of my favorite things.

So you can see why my heart practically stopped when I got this email from Mamavation.

Kingdom Cheddar contest

Hello!

Don’t you think this trip has my name on it?! I do!

Want to know why? Let’s start from the very beginning. (I don’t know why I seem to have developed a Sound of Music theme here. It must be those rolling hills.)

Anyhow, I love cheese. And, in an amazing coincidence that I’m going to take as a sign, I actually tasted Kingdom Cheddar on a recent trip to London. And there is only one word to describe it — YUM.

Besides how delicious it is and how many awards it’s won, it’s also the first USDA certified organic cheese exported to the U.S. from Europe.

In other words, this cheese stands alone. Ha ha ha!

Seriously, it would be a dream come true to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Kingdom dairy farm and the gorgeous countryside it calls home.

I’ve written about England, about farm to table, about organic farming. I would love to write a series of posts about Kingdom Cheddar just like I did about my Buick Bucket List Trip and my husband’s birthday weekend in Scottsdale, and share their unique story on my other outlets as well.

Plus, I genuinely adore cows. See that beautiful cow, at the top of this post? It sits in a place of honor overlooking our living room.

So don’t you think I should be going to England? I hope you’ll leave a comment below and let the Kingdom Cheddar people know how dedicated I would be to introducing and promoting their cheese. And I also hope you’ll come join the Twitter party tomorrow night at 9 Eastern/6 Pacific. They’ll be giving away lots of prizes, and they’ll also be announcing the lucky winner of the trip.

If — fingers, toes, everything crossed — it’s me, they won’t even have to ask me to smile for the camera. I’m already saying, “Cheese!”

Update: I didn’t win although I did have a great time at the Twitter party, which was laden with cheesy jokes. Congratulations to Jenny McGruther, who will be going to England. Please bring back some cheese for all of us!

  1. My vote’s for you. I would love to read what you will say about cows, cheese, and the English country side. It sounds like a fun trip. Go for it, Lois.

  2. I received that email, too, and YOU were the first one I thought of. Yes, you must go! (Who else would have included in such a post the chuckle-worthy line, “The cheese stands alone”? Yes, you are THE one deserving of the trip, based on that alone.)

  3. Yes, you should go. But you should also come to Northern California and visit Cowgirl Creamery for some fantastic cheese. Oh, I do love cheese. And chocolate. And wine. And coffee. But yes, go!

    1. You are so sweet, thanks! You can Tweet to @KingdomCheese and use hashtag #KingdomCheeseLover. My Twitter handle is @loisaltermark. If I win, I will send you some cheese! xo

  4. Oh I love cheddar cheese! I hope they pick you and you bring home a doggy bag filled with cheese :)! Sharing this using #kingdomcheeselover!

  5. “English Coastal Cheddar” is one of those phrases that my husband utters with an absolutely horrid Upper Class Twit ( a la Monty Python) accent when he rummages through the cheese drawer searching for his REAL cheddar cheese. I am going to have to search out and try this brand.

  6. I grew up on cheese. Our local cheese store gave us samples of everything , and we willingly ate (and purchased) everything from brie to Stilton and all around. My parents used to give me cheese to take back to college. I love every single kind.

I hope they pick you to go. I bet they will!

P.S. I don’t know why I am no longer receiving emails about your posts being published. Sigh.

  7. Here’s my vote, hoping that you win… Ya know, of course, that my boys would love to go with you! 🙂

In any case, I think the trip has your name on it, and I hope you guys have a wonderful time!

  8. This would be an amazing opp for you since you love to travel. Best wishes that you get this once in a lifetime opp.

  9. They absolutely have to pick you. You share such an interesting perspective and always leave me more curious about your next adventure! And, I think your obvious love of cows should count for something. 🙂 Looking forward to your Kingdom Cheese feature (fingers crossed)! And, I’ll be at the Twitter Party!

  10. I did, in fact, manage to put it to an awkward rendition of “My Favorite Things,” lol. I LOVE cheese! I must have been a mouse in a previous life.

  11. This does have your name written all over it! I’ve got my fingers & toes crossed for you. But sorry, I’m not sharing my cheese. 😉

  12. I love CHEESE! It is the one thing in our house that we can never keep long as we all constantly are in the fridge eating it:)
