Since becoming disillusioned with Susan G. Komen earlier this year, we have spent a great deal of time researching other organizations to feature during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We were happy to learn about Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) because it’s so in keeping with our own Look Good. Feel Good. Do Good. philosophy.
LGFB is not an organization researching causes or looking for cures; rather, it is a free public service which empowers women (and men) with cancer by helping them feel good about the way they look. This is an area that often gets overshadowed by science and medicine but, because cancer can change a person’s physical appearance, it’s a vital component of the healing process.
According to their mission statement, “LGFB is dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of people undergoing treatment for cancer. It is our aim to improve their self-image and appearance through complimentary group, individual, and self-help beauty sessions that create a sense of support, confidence, courage and community.”
We all know what a difference self-confidence can make in healing. Just think how much better you feel about yourself when you believe you’re looking good. LGFB was founded in 1989 when a doctor wanted to help a patient who wouldn’t leave her room because of her appearance after cancer treatment. He called a friend who was an executive in the beauty industry and — thanks to the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, a charitable organization established by the Personal Care Products Council, the leading national trade association representing the global cosmetic and personal care products industry — LGFB was born. Since then, the program has helped more than 1,200,000 people around the world.
Every day for the rest of the month, we will be featuring LGFB’s innovative programs and promotions, all benefiting people with cancer. Visit their website here and learn how you can get involved. Helping has never been so beautiful.
We’re required to disclose a relationship between our site and LGFB . This could include the LGFB providing us w/content, product, access or other forms of payment.

This is amazing. American Cancer Society has a program just like this and it is called LOOK GOOD, FEEL BETTER. I was fortunate enough to take advantage of it when I was going thru chemo. It’s a wonderful program, but believe it was started by ACS. Free make-up, taught us how to wear scarves, hats, etc. Wonderful experience. No matter who started it. jz

I too, took advantage of this program when I was treated last year for breast cancer. The women who ran it were great- compassionate, very helpful, and fun. The products that were donated were much appreciated- and I learned alot. Anything that helps us feel better about ourselves with – or without cancer is a gift, especially when it celebrates who we are, as we are!
