Okay, now here is a brilliant idea. You know your kids (and you!) don’t need half the treats they collect, so help them sell their stash back to a local dentist participating in the Halloween Candy Buy-Back program.
Dentists register to pay a dollar a pound, then they send all the goodies off to the troops overseas as part of Operation Gratitude. Your kids will easily be able to imagine the joy on the soldiers’ faces when they open these care packages filled with candy. Last year, a whopping 60 tons were sent. Sweet!
P.S. I don’t have trick or treaters in the house but I do have a lot of leftover candy which I am packing up now before I stick one more Kit Kat in my mouth.

But what do they do with the CHOCOLATE? I didn’t think that could be sent b/c it melts. Maybe I should go visit the dentist soon to advise her and see if she needs help with that issue!
Good question … Maybe the dentists eat it!
Thank you for saving my hips. Bagging it up now!
Ha! I have practically polished off an entire back of little Hershey Bars myself!
I use the leftover candy (especially the chocolate stuff) for my holiday baking.
Great idea, and very impressive if you can keep it until then!
That’s easy! Don’t buy candy, EVER!
What do you give the trick or treaters??!
This is a much better idea than simply tossing it which is what I used to do about a couple of days. Thanks for sharing this great idea.
I always tossed the Tootsie Rolls and Sour Patch anything. The chocolate, on the other hand, went straight into my mouth!
I heard about this program but forgot about it so thanks for the reminder. The last few trick or treaters got handfuls, not because I am that generous but that I didn’t want leftovers and it was 8:30!
