make a comment, save a life

Click to read about Blogust and how to save a child's life just by leaving a comment

In the blogging world, comments are currency. Any blogger will tell you there is nothing more valuable than having readers respond to a post.

This month – Blogust, as it should forever be known from now on – Shot@Life is taking that philosophy literally. Thirty-one well-known bloggers, including my friends Chloe Jeffreys and Darryle Pollack, are writing special posts, and Walgreens will donate a vaccine to a child in need for every comment posted on those stories during August.

Because Shot@Life is all about milestones and making sure children everywhere in the world are provided with the necessary vaccines to reach them, each day of August will celebrate a specific age. For example, on August 1, Rebecca Woolf reminisced about first birthdays and other firsts; on August 2, Casey Mullins wrote about being two; and I can’t wait to see what Audrey McClelland – who just gave birth to a daughter after having four boys – has to say on August 31!

As a Shot@Life Champion, I can tell you firsthand that it is an amazing organization. Funded by the United Nations Foundation, its mission is to vaccinate every child worldwide. Right now, a child dies every 20 seconds from a disease that is preventable by vaccine. This is inexcusable. Shot@Life focuses on the four major killers — pneumonia, diarrhea, measles and polio – and you can help eradicate all of them just by using your words.

Sign up now to receive a daily reminder about the Blogust post of the day. You’ll want to read each one anyway because these bloggers are such good writers. Go back and read the ones you missed. Then leave a comment. You comment, and a child gets a life-saving vaccine. It couldn’t be simpler.

Last year, because of Blogust, Shot@Life was able to provide more than 10,000 life-saving vaccines. This year, Walgreens is donating up to 50,000 vaccines. That means 50,000 children may get a shot at life. But only if you put your mouth where the money is.

And let’s be glad there are 31 days in August.
